Ok. My parents are finally travelling here in the US from the Philippines with and IR5 visa. What other fees do I need to expect? I am going bankcrupt in her

Any fees? Airport fee?

The $220 fee is for the Green Card to be printed.  It is recommended that you pay it before entering the US, but it can be paid after entry.  The Grren Card will not be sent without payment.

 

Exemptions

The following groups do not have to pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee:

• Children who enter the United States under the orphan or Hague adoption programs;
• Iraqi and Afghan special immigrants;
• Returning lawful permanent residents (SB-1s); and
• K nonimmigrants.

My wife cam in on a CR-1 visa.  The officer stamped her passport and gave her 2 years.

Does she have to remove conditions?  Not sure if those coming having to remove conditions get a different length of time.  As  I came as an F1 and don't have to remove conditions as I got the green card through parent, so got a 10 year.  Her parents should be the same as they won't have to remove conditions.

Are you talking about the temporary I551 ? The standard wording at the bottom of an immigrant visa is one year. Does CR1 have different printed wording? Or did the officer actually have a 2-year stamp?

If you cannot afford these fees, how are you going to support them?  They both better get jobs that include health insurance.  This is something you needed to consider before sponsoring.

Maybe someone else on CR1 can confirm but my old B1/B2s used to have there the validity of the stay according to visa. So I tend to think this is the same as that, ie your spouse is lawfully admitted on this visa until that date. (After which conditions need to be removed, correct?) As far as a temporary I551 is concerned, I don’t believe that is valid any longer than the usual year, so as far a I can see your spouse still needs to have a plastic GC as proof of status after a year from entry date. What does it say about endorsement in the printed part of the bottom of the visa?

Good point.  Her visa has the standard statement about one year.  Of course my wife's plastic card (which she received on Jul 15th) gives her 2 years......
