Report of Marriage, is it necessary?

Hi my fellow VJ-ers!!  It's been awhile since the very last time I posted a topic here.  I came here through a K1 visa and now I am on the process of Removing my Conditions. One thing I'm curious about is, it necessary to report our marriage? Honestly, I'm not really aware of it since I start reading blogs and forums. It's been 3 years since we got married and in a couple of months I am eligible to renew my Philippine Passport. I know I am way to late to report our marriage  and I am curious too if the Philippine Consulate will charge me a fine for it.

If you want to renew your passport in your married name then yes it is required.  No they won't charge you extra for doing it late,  my asawa and I did it almost 4 years after we got married with no problem. They just want to know a explanation as to why it took so long, so I made up some excuse and they took it and processed with no problem.

How long does it take to process the ROM? Are they gonna give me a document to prove that I reported my marriage? I really appreciate your reply.

6-8 weeks.  Yes.

Just like Greenbaum said: they will give you paperwork back as showing you did ROM. The process takes about 6-8 weeks on average when you mail it in. 

 

Also be a advised that you MUST do the ROM at consulate in the area where you got married, not where you are living na. For example, we got married in the Washington D.C. area but are not living in the Los Angeles area. So we had to mail the ROM to the Washington D.C. embassy not the Los Angeles consulate.

 Because I am planning to do my ROM when I renew my passport so it'll be 2 things at the same time. We got married in Southern California so it means we can walk-in by Los Angeles Consulate? And also, do I need to an Affidavit for Delayed Reporting of Marriage? Please see attached.

Yes, you can just walk in to the Los Angeles consulate to do it anytime. You also need the Affidavit for Delayed Reporting of Marriage as well. 

 

Where in SoCal you guys live? We are in Pasadena.

No the consulate will not charge you a fine.  They do ask for a letter explaining the late filing or ROM, but your explanation here should do the trick.. didn't know.

If you want your Phils passport in your married name you will need to complete ROM  

 

Being you are in the process of completing ROC is your conditional green card still valid or has it expired?  I ask because the Phils consulate will want a copy of your "valid" green card for renewing the passport.

Just follow what they want here and you will be fine.

6 weeks for us.   and yes you get a copy of the application back showing it was recorded with PSA

 

You will get a copy of the ROM application form back showing it has been received/recorded with PSA

In Ventura.   Are they open 7 days a week? (The Consulate)

Hi Hank! It's nice chatting with you again.   You always answer my questions back in the days when I am still doing my K1 Journey.  My greencard is expiring this month but I have the extension letter. In which I'm in doubt to visit my family in the Philippines since I'm scared traveling with an expired greencard. And I know the ROC processing timeframe is between 12-18 months
