My fiance is from Tumkur (near Bangalore) and we are currently in K1 process. Which embassy will we be routed to for interview (Mumbai, Delhi, etc)?

" The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi and the U.S. Consulate General in Mumbai both process immigrant visa applications."

The K-1 is technically nonimmgrant but is processed by the immigrant visa unit, and follows the same process as above. So the case will either be sent to which of those 2 you chose on the I-129F, or if neither of them then NVC will typically pick whichever one is closer to her address as stated on the I-129F.

It is generally the closest Embassy to beneficiary's home address, which in this case would be Mumbai.

Thank you both for the reply! Do either of you know or recall how long from NOA2 until interview scheduled? I'm thinking we will get approval in mid - January so looking to plan a visit so I can attend with him and see the family.

Since you've filed in August you should be getting your NVC letter by October or November. Once you receive the letter from NVC that packet 3 has been received by the US Consulate/ Embassy you should be receiving packet 4 from US embassy to your home address and that will take anywhere between 2-3 weeks once the COnsulate receives packet 3. AM guessing that will happen by December because we sent in our I129F petition in August 2016 and got approved in October 2016, Delhi Embassy received packet 3 in November 2016 and packet 4 was sent to me in first week of December 2016....I was about to schedule my appointment in Jan 2017 but due to some issues I had to reschedule it for  March 2017 and got approved. We also received a RFE and so another 2 weeks of delay. If i didnt delayed i wouldve done my interview in Jan 2017 itself. Anyways am sure you should be having your interview in December 2017 or Jan 2018...When your fiancee petioned for I-129F there's a question regarding which US consulate/Embassy would your (the beneficiary) will apply the visa at. Did you ask him to write Mumbai ?  (Page 8..option 62.a & 62.b of I-129F form) K-1 visa are processed by only Mumbai and New Delhi.

Thank you that is helpful! I think we wrote Chennai at the time not realizing only Mumbai or Delhi were appropriate. I am sure they will forward to Mumbai as its closest to Tumkur. I am hoping to book trip in advance and may just take my chances with hope that interview will fall into that timeframe of late Jan/Feb.

You are welcome and I'd say wait for NOA2 and the mail from NVC and then book your tickets...that way you can actually be with her during the interview

Can the petitioner request a change for which embassy the interview is conducted (for the beneficiary)?

Is there an official process?

If you can catch the petition at NVC, you can request for them to change it there. But it's only there for about a week or so, and getting somebody on the line that is willing to actually help change it there is difficult but possible.

If the case is sent to the embassy already, the beneficiary can request a transfer at the embassy. Contact the embassy where you want to interview and make the request there.
