So we already paid for the marriage license ..i know it was foolish before researching no other plans yet are paid......so do we take a loss or can we get married but I come back more times and visit and wait to file until we have enough visits?

I highly suggest that you please go back and read the replies especially from @NigeriaorBust and @O&GForever -- marrying on the first visit is not in your best interest (for visa or personal happiness).

Best to you in your decision and journey. I hope that all works out for you. Take good care.

Upside to this -- when (and if) you tell him that you want to wait, see how he reacts to it. Will he try to hear and understand you or...

Again, please trust your gut and try to listen to it. I know it is hard when you have strong feelings, but please try!

Loss vs potential huge loss.........

Better to file after several visits seem to be the consensus....for several reasons.

Here's some food for thought..... over the years on VJ, when someone such as yourself has gone as far as getting a marriage license prior to meeting (very suspicious in the eyes of an immigration officer) .... take pause, and find a way to discuss with your man, the possibility of you moving there because of the hurdles.... the answers some have gotten on here, showed them the true colors of the beneficiary.  If he is insistent that the only way is for him to come here.... tune in to your gut instincts when you meet (and meet as much as possible)

Read through the Ghana portal, the postings, the Consulate reviews.... you will see how intensely you will be scrutinized.  There have been many fraudsters from there that have made it an extremely challenging ordeal for others.

OP, are you really considering travelling to marry someone that you did not even meet in person yet? Marriage is a serious thing, especially if it involves immigration, etc. I met my now husband online almost 10 years ago and we stayed in touch for 2 years until we met in person. He visited me a couple times and got to know each other better before we discussed any immigration step. Take your time and know this person well before making any serious commitment that can affect the rest of your life. Keep in mind that Ghana is a high fraud country so you will need to make a couple visits or make him to visit you to US.

My fiance and I been talking on the internet for a year and want to get married in January.  This will be first time meeting him in person and going to Ghana? Should we wait to marry or can I file fiance visa?..we really love each other

I would wait and meet in person then proceed. Sometimes people are not the same as they are behind a screen. When you meet and spend time with that person that's when you truly get to know them. Actions speak louder than words. You don't have to take anyone's advice, but please at least listen to the ones from the Ghana portal  who have either married or brought their spouses over from Ghana. I wish you all the best in however you decide to proceed!

My best friend, since 20 years is Ghanian. I visited Accra. He tells me it is full of Azaa Man, and no one can be trusted. He tells me, almost every Ghanian will scam for a visa, if the chance arrives, like it is absolutely clear. This is said by a Ghanian not a German...

Ehhh well I may be biased, but I do not think everyone is like that. Ghana gets thrown a lot of shade but its not that bad lol.

I enjoyed my time in ghana (teshi nungua) visting my friend and his family. But HE is the one permanently warning me and telling me stories of fraud that I cant even imagine myself... Ghanians tend not to be violent but very smart in inventing stories :)

There is a reason why this embassy has such a rejection rate and you want to marry someone you only know from skype? Think twice and find out with whom you are dealing first. Tell him you want to take it slow, move to his country for a year or two first and see the reaction...

Stop speaking ill about Ghana..... Not everyone is like that

Oh, and I forgot to add, not only did we marry first visit, but with a lot of advance planning (and it took a LOT of advance planning) we were actually able to do so in just 3 days of arrival. So, arrived on a Saturday night and were married around noon of that Tuesday. I was amazed how fast it could be done.
