FB-1 visa status

Hi, everyone

Perhaps anybody can share info how things move forward in time. What to expect and prepare for.FB-1 visa. My family (mother-US Citizen) just received a letter from Vermont USCIC that my petition has been approved and sent to Portsmouth NVC. Also that we have to wait for 30 days until they will send some another letter to us. 

Please share your thoughts, I'm really anxious, because there has not been any move  in my case since 2012. Thanks for all who will reply. God bless all.

For FB-1, there's about a 8 year wait from the Priority Date (PD) before an immigrant visa number becomes available. Based on your timeline, I'm assuming that will be in 3-4 more years. May 2010 is the current PD, but it's advancing only about 8 months every year currently.

What is your priority date?

Most likely it will take only 1.5 to 2 years. Next visa bulletin will be Dec 2010. so you are looking at about a 1.5 year wait most likely. Good luck!

 

My PD is May 2013 (Vermont Service Center). No update for me since 2013. Thanks for updating. Hopefully I will receive something soon.

Do you know anything about this Opt out ?

Effect on adult children: If you filed a petition for your unmarried adult children (age 21 or older) when you were an LPR, NVC will change the visa category from family second preference (F2B) to family first preference (F1). However, under a federal law called the Child Status Protection Act (CSPA), visa applicants can “opt out” of conversion to the F1 visa category and remain an F2B visa applicant. This may be beneficial because sometimes the waiting time for an F2B visa is shorter than the waiting time for an F1 visa. When you naturalize and become a U.S. citizen, you should check the Visa Bulletin to see if it would be helpful for your adult unmarried child to remain in the F2B category. (Applicants keep the priority date of their F2B petition when it converts to the F1 visa category.) Applicants who want to opt-out of the F1 category must submit a request using these guidelines:

Yes, did your mom file when she had green card? That means she filed as F2B. I would wait till its close to your priority date and if you see F1 moving faster than F2B, then opt to F1. Otherwise stay on F2B. I would monitor the visa bulletin.

Yes she did filed while she was green card holder. Could you clear for me - Am I still in F2A waiting list ?She is a Citizen now, I ve thought they automaticly change my PD from F2B to F1B? Which PD is mine?Thank you

You should call NVC when they send you a letter. I don't think they convert automatically but I am not 100% positive. Call them and ask. But if I were you, I would wait closer to when it's your priority date. F2B may move faster than F1. Just got to watch the visa bulletin

Is your PD Oct 11 or Nov 10? My friends PD is Nov 5, 2012 and he did not receive anything yet. Just wondering.

I hope it's only 1.5-2 years as well. However, I will just note that historically they have only been advancing the current PD for F1 about 8 months every year. If they advanced it 12 months every year (optimistic but possible based on only the past few years), it would take 2.5 years for the PD to become current. If it follows the long term historical average, it will take about 3.5 years.
