Any chance your husband has another citizenship by descent?

I know he has celtic ancestry. The other side of his ancestry is of Indian/Trini decent.

Unfortunately it seems to be enforceable. A couple of co-workers tried to get jobs elsewhere and ended up in trouble for violating it. He works somewhere that's very strict when it comes to letting competing companies know what they do. Heck, even I'm not allowed to know half the stuff I know!

Despite what is in his work contract, realistically it is very difficult for a previous employer to enforce non-compete clauses. No one can stop anyone from earning a living. Even if the job has the same skills but a different job title it is very difficult to prove.

Also, it would be civil litigation and there is no point in your husband's company suing your husband if he doesn't have any savings! Go forth, I'd say.

If you haven't already decided to move back, don't forget about online jobs. There are several for teaching, proofreading, editing, transcribing and more. That way you wouldn't have to leave the house.

It is normal to feel anxious and out of place in a new country, especially if you're isolated. Is there anyone you could invite over occasionally, at least until you figure out what to do?

I've applied for absolutely every online job there is. I've worked with a few different companies while I've been here (and I still do work with Appen).

Nope, unfortunately there isn't anyone I could invite over. The only friends I have here are my husband's friends, and they're not the sort of people I'd be inviting over to hang out with me if my husband wasn't around.

I wasn't sure where to post this, so if it belongs somewhere else I apologise.

I moved to the US in 2013 and have been going through the AOS process. Unfortunately the anxiety that I've had since I was 15 years old has got progressively worse since moving and I now suffer from agoraphobia. I am stuck in my house Mon-Fri and my husband forces me out at the weekend, where we tend to just go somewhere secluded so I can get some fresh air. I cannot leave the house with anybody except him, can't use public transport, can't drive, can't do anything on my own or with anybody else. As a result I can't work and can't even visit the UK as I'm worried I won't be able to get on the return flight home due to panic and my husband will have to return without me. Because I can't work I can't afford treatment of any kind, and I can't work on it by myself as I live in an area where there is nowhere for me to go even if I do leave the house. It is  taking such a toll that I can barely get out of bed.

As a result I've come to the conclusion that I need to return to the UK. I cannot permanently separate from my husband; we're married 'til death do us part. I'm just unsure on what my best options are in this particular situation. The requirements state that I have to prove I can financially support my husband, but I can't do that until I'm better. Would we fall under the category of "there would be very significant difficulties for you and your partner if you lived together as a couple outside the UK that couldn’t be overcome"?  I have all my records showing that I received several rounds of therapy before moving and that I've been on multiple medications since arriving in the US. If we were to move back to the UK we would be living with my parents while I get better and my husband looks for work. If it's possible we hope to rent our current home in the US out so that we still have a little source of income.

Any advice would be appreciated, or if all you can tell me is that I'm screwed then at least it's better that I know.

I’m sorry that you are having to go through that and I’m sure that you have probably moved by now, but on the off chance that you’re still in the USA, have you looked into getting a service dog? There are lots of ways to go about it and it really does help, if you’re an animal person. My husband is a combat vet and has combat related PTSD, he was unable to go in public without me due to his anxiety and hyper vigilance. He got a service dog and the improvement on his life was incredible! It was like a complete 180, he could go out in public without me and be okay, and if he wasn’t his dog helped ground him. Unfortunately he was unable to bring his dog with him to NZ and it has hindered him so much that he is almost back to square one. We are moving back to the USA now and a big reason for doing so is so he can get a service dog again.

Just an idea. I really hope you’re doing better and life is a little easier for you
