Hi everyone,

Background:

I entered the US with a K-1 visa and married my fiancée (within 90 days). I'm currently gathering all my papers.

Questions:

1. Do we need to fill I-130?

2. Do I need to fill out I-693? For K-1, I had a full medical examination and the embassy gave me an enclosed envelop. Do I submit the enclosed envelop? The i485 instructions mentioned, I just need vaccination supplement; where do I get it? The local physician didn't give me any document.

3. Birth Certificate: my birth certificate was retained by my home school. I have my high school passing certificate that mentions my date of birth. Will that be sufficient?

If someone could respond to these questions, it will be really appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

1) No I-130 is needed. Only when a spouse is adjusting from tourist visas or an ESTA waiver.

2) There should be a copy of your DS-3025 in the big brown envelope. Make sure it's marked 'complete' at the bottom. Make a copy of it and send it with your I-485 petition. Some countries like mine, give you a white sealed envelop with a stamp on it "use only for I-485", if so-- put that envelop with your petition.

3) You will need a certified copy of your birth certificate. A high school diploma won't suffice and you will receive a request for evidence if you would add it.

Thank you Dutchster, really appreciate the quick response.

1. Okay, so we won't fill out I-130. Thank you!

2. The embassy handed one brown sealed envelope for the "port of entry" and a white sealed envelop that mentions "copy of medical exam." Do I just include the whole enclosed envelop? Do I still need to fill out I-693 fully or partially? I have no idea on my vaccination records. The home physician asked me to get vaccination of DPT only. Please guide.

3. Okay, thank you! I will try to get something.

Original birth certificates are never given out. You school probably kept your copy of the birth certificate. Originals are kept are a state registrar's office or something of the sort. You should ask someone in your family to request one for you, scan it, and e-mail it to you. They can mail you the copy they got and you can keep it for your records. Maybe in India the process is different.
