Exactly as above. From what I'm told, the couriers treat certain types of mail (i.e. federal government agencies, voting mail, etc.) differently. Normally mail is only routed to an address - not a person. This type of mail has to go to an individual so there needs to be somebody that can recognize that the person lives there - either the mailman/mailwoman knows them there or (preferred) marking the name clearly on the mailbox. As surprising as it sounds, USPS doesn't have a whole lot of info on who lives where so much as mailpiece x goes to building y.

Thank you for your reply!!

Yes, I've already changed the sticker... It didn't have my name either, just my husband's - never paid attention before :) But we share the same last name, son has different one, that's why, probably, USCIS letters found me, but not him.

One thing is still bothering me , and I apologize if it was answered before...

Why those "lost" USCIS mails for my son have never showed up on MyUSPS account, as Informed Delivery?..

I've noticed, that I see "reported deliveries"  through the account  around 7.00 a.m., and then, in 30-40 minutes, an email comes, with this info.

So..... seems like mails are scanned by the local Post Office at the moment they load the USPS Vehicle for today delivery. Am I right?..

If so, the mails are "rejected" for delivery by someone at the local Post Office, who prepares the vehicle for delivery... Not by mail person, who sees the names on our mail box - that person, probably, doesn't even have the mails  and has no idea they "existed"..

I am sorry - too many questions, and I understand things happen.. But two lost mails, for the same person from the same agency, including ACS appointment - this is not what you  would want to miss...

Thank you for your time.

But that is not all. Recently (I signed up about two weeks ago), they start to have Mail Dashboard.

If you live on the same address as your spouse you might ask him/her to sign up instead. Usually it's hard to get verified when you're new in the country. My husband signed up for our account, he's a US citizen and had no issues getting verified. Doesn't matter who signs up, all mail that comes to that particular address will show up on My USPS, no matter what name is on the mail.

Yup, that makes perfect sense. :)

Without going into the actual workflows (and process that I'm not certain if I'm allowed to disclose), that's basically it. There's a lot more going on behind the scenes, but usually around 6-7 AM local time is when we get enough data to generate the dashboard. Then the emails start going out shortly afterwards. But the data is actually (usually) from slightly further upstream than your local post office, called a Processing and Distribution Center (PDC). Local post offices don't have the space or equipment to handle the image scanning and such. Anyway, the mail that gets displayed is what is sent out on the trucks for delivery still.

You do raise a good question of why that individual piece of mail never appeared...in the timeline of events, it should "think" the piece is going to be delivered and the local mailperson is the one that rejects delivering it due to not knowing for sure if the individual lives there. I don't have an answer there, unfortunately. Items are never "removed" in Informed Delivery either (they don't show a mailpiece for a day then later remove it if it was not delivered).

Thanks again for your reply and very detailed explanation!!!

Just wanted let you know that my son's ASC letter arrived.... right after we came back from our biometric :)   :) It was dated June, 30 (the same as mine),  but we got in the mail box on July 17..

It's interesting, because once I received my Notice, on July 10, and learnt from USCIS that son's was sent along with mine and should've arrived as well,  I went to the Post Office to inquire about another Notice.. And a Post Office clerk got son's info and after some actions she took I was told that since "now" he will be receiving government letters..

So, I believe what happened - it wasn't delivered, but it wasn't sent back..yet ;) probably  I got to the Post Office just on-time to prevent it. And then the Notice found us few days later..

Also funny - the day it was delivered I washed our mail box and there was no sticker with our names in.. but the Notice still got delivered..

You are right - there's a lot more going on behind the scenes :)

Thank s again for your help!!!

This thing is very good but just as in the package tracker it does not distinguish between Apt/Unit numbers. We are in a two-unit duplex, unit 1 and unit 2. Dashboard shows all of my neighbors mails/packages along with mine, and if they signed up too, they would be seeing ours. I wonder if this is the case for 10-12 unit apartment complexes too. It shouldn't be too hard to add unit/apt/suite number distinction.

Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to make that distinction in an automated manner (in some circumstances). Packages and mail are not actually routed to individuals, but to buildings. Your physical building is likely registered as a single building instead of 2 separate ones. In terms of how the mail and packages are routed (ZIP11 = ZIP5 + ZIP4 + DPV code), the destination is identical and it's the mailperson that distinguishes what mailbox to put each item in / what unit to delivery the package to.

That said, units that fall into this setup I believe are supposed to be on a DPBC exclusion list... :P

It depends on how it is setup. I live in an apartment myself and it works fine, but I (and all my neighbors) have a dedicated address. For example, my address is 123 Fake Street Apt. 1 while a neighbor's is 124 Fake Street Apt. 2. There's a huge list of rules, but this mostly handles off-cases.

The official, simplified response (from the FAQ) is: "In order for the feature to provide mail images to the appropriate recipient(s), each multi-unit building on each carrier route must be individually identified and coded to the unit level. While most addresses are coded at this level, this coding process, especially in high density areas, is a work in progress. If you live in multi-unit building and you have successfully registered on usps.com®, but the sign up process indicates that you do not have an eligible address, we are unable to offer you the feature until the coding is complete. Please check back at a later date."

Either way, when you try to signup it will tell you if your address qualifies or not.

When I went, the supervisor was still new to this and she had to update her scanner with a new app. She then went on to verify me and I was able to see my mail which came to my PO box.

Speaking of which. I love informed delivery. I was waiting for my oath ceremony invitation and I knew it was coming but I didn't know if if comes to my home address or PO box. I had just had my interview and I told the lady to change my address. She made a note of it but I still didn't know where the invitation was going to be sent. On a Saturday, I decided to check Informed delivery on a hunch. Until then it hasn't scanned my mail yet as it just got rolled out. However, that Saturday, it had a picture of a letter from USCIS! I jumped up and down and I immediately went to the post office to fetch it 😁

We changed our address months ago at USCIS during an Infopass session, using the AR-11, and online multiple times but every time USCIS sends something, they still send to our old address and then it gets forwarded (with the yellow sticker). We just got a notice the green card was being re-issued (it was part of the recall in the Spring) and we're worried it'll get sent to the old address again. Is there a way to see stuff being sent via USPS to old addresses associated with our name so we can catch it before it's being forwarded?
