Is that an example of "progressives" progressing in the wrong direction?

They're the people who want schools to teach that the Earth is 5000 years old, take the minimum wage back to $3 dollars an hour, turn back the clock on civil rights, overturn Roe vs Wade and make sure millions of Americans can't get health insurance. Once they get all that, they'll probably try taking away women's right to vote and bringing back slavery and child labor.

I think you know who they are.

The "regressives" should let her speak then. They just spent the last 8 years in a perpetual filibuster. The republicans are coming off  looking like hypocrites here.

In their alternative facts world, the only form of free speech that is protected, is when it's flattering to them of the so-called president. Anything they don't like must be silenced, and those they don't like should not be let into the country.

morning joe this morning they were talking about how trump wants to single out warren and put her on the path to run against him 2020. and mika said that was just as ridiculous as hillary wanting to run against trump (agreed). trump is going to go down as the president who strives to pick fights with women leadership, because he sees them as weak and an easy mark..

and i haven't watched morning joe since like 2008, lord help me.

At the rate he is going, Trump will not be president for a long time. Both sides are talking about proceedings already. The Republicans want to see the back of him too.

Yes, everyone that is a conservative thinks that the earth is 5000 years old...  As to the minimum wage, that is a different debate, but the "progressive" side seems to want us heading in the direction of Democratic Socialism, and don't care about the negative impacts to business (hey maybe SBOs can go to this Washington judge and get a TRO for any minimum wage increase due to the negative impacts).  Aren't there millions of Americans that don't have health insurance even under Obamacare?  And I am sure all the women's rights (aren't the laws/orders involving gender identity doing more harm to women's rights than any conservative) will be taken away, and slavery will come back.  Gotta love fear mongering, it seems to be the only thing the "progressives" have left.

No you do this yourself a lot. I'm sure it won't be long before we see another one of your 'tolerant left' or 'socialism fails' articles. Don't be a hypocrite.

Proof of failure is not fear mongering, failure to learn from mistakes of the past simply dooms us to repeat history.  Socialism fails whether it is Democratic or Communistic.  My only reason for posting these types of articles is to help educate those regarding the perils of Socialism as it only works until you run out of money (thanks to M. Thatcher).  Economics is a cruel mistress, government cannot generate wealth, they can only confiscate it.

Your own country has a federal debt that we probably will never dig our way out of. Every child born today has the equivalent of $60000 in public debt and that's going no where but up.

Other countries don't have a federal reserve system that can create money out of thin air. They don't have a dollar standard that they can manipulate to their own advantage. They have to deal with economic crisis' in real time. Unlike American, they can't pay the mortgage with a credit card taken out in their kids name.  Pushing your economic failures onto future generations is not a success story, but sure, let's post an article about Venezuela's failure. It's a lot easier than looking in the mirror.

We as a whole need to have more children in order to lessen the debt.

Absolutely correct regarding government debt.  The problem needs to be addressed at the root cause however, and I don't see that changing to a socialist economic system changes this.  I know, it may be getting too late to institute cost cutting measures.

Wait, are you suggesting that the fiat money created in the US, and the fed's reckless low interest rate and QE policies, are capitalism? Central banks have injected trillions in more socialist countries as well. Interest rates were lowered to 0% or close to it in those countries as well. If anything, most of the policies in recent years are more liberal policies(again such as low interest rates) rather than conservative. I always find it funny that those constantly talking about the gap between rich and poor support the policies that do nothing but widen that gap. The FED has been the biggest contributor to wealth transfer in this country. It's one of the things I am geniunely watching the most with Trump - how he handles that whole situation. Will he do what no one(especially not Bush and Obama) was willing to do, or will he be the same? At least half of my opinion on his presidncy will be based on that. That's the prism through which I look.

Not suggesting that at all. Capitalism gone awry maybe. Just saying we have our own problems. We dug ourselves a deep hole primarily because we gave ourselves a big shovel to dig with. At some point we have to dig ourselves out or get buried. The more we dig, the more likely it is to be the latter.

Us laughing at Venezuela is kind of like me laughing at my neighbor for defaulting on his mortgage, while I open up a credit card in my kids name to pay for mine.

Yeah, I think cronyism fits the bill, definitely gone awry. Unfortunately, many people(not you) associate cronyism with capitalism instead of realizing that's not at all what true capitalism is supposed to be like. I still laugh at Bush saying this at the height of the crisis:

Well, I have obviously made a decision to make sure the economy doesn’t collapse. I’ve abandoned free market principles to save the free market system.

Basically saying he saved it from itself. Can there be a more ridiculous statement? You either believe in the system or you don't. You can't pick and choose when it suits you and when it doesn't based on circumstances. If it's good enough, it doesn't need to be saved, and if it needs to be saved, it's not good. I do agree we have our own problems and we're digging a bigger hole instead of changing things which is why like I said I'm going to watch what Trump does - I'm not holding out hope, but we'll see.

I agree completely.  Cronyism in any economic system is not good.  The reason we need to look at countries like Venezuela, or Greece, is that they are good examples of socialism mixed with cronyism gone awry.  The hope is that we learn from these mistakes.  It is obvious that this country is in debt due to government spending run amok, with a lot of cronyism in the mix.  This is what needs fixing, but as we saw in Greece, with so many people dependent on the government, this may not come to pass.  I agree with Oriz, I am at a wait and see with Trump, but the realism that the Washington machine is just too big also leaves me with little hope.
