Pence ushered in DeVos with a tie breaking vote.

That was entirely expected. None of this affects me or anyone I know around me. Most of us skilled immigrants with post grad degrees.

However, we are going to see a lot more unregulated charter schools and possible degradation of proficiency of middle school/high school kids. Perhaps even increasing the costs of education which are already really really high.

I really hope Betsy DeVos proves all her detractors, including me, wrong and actually improves the system. If not, well more demand for skilled/specialized immigrants.

What specific qualifications does Mrs. DeVos have that makes you think she is what is needed to make our education system great? What specific achievements has she made, or specific training or experience does she have that allows her to have your full support and confidence. Please be specific.

It's interesting. The Vice President breaking a tie for a Presidential Cabinet appointment has never happened.

At the time that the constitution was written, the Vice President was actually the "runner up" in the Presidential election. You didn't run with a Vice President running mate. In that scenario, a Vice President could be seen as another "check" on the President since they were previously the President's opponent and therefore were likely to have opposing views.

By changing the Vice President into a "running mate" they altered one of the few significant roles the Vice President has (the tie vote in the Senate). As it was originally intended, a Vice President breaking a tie on a Presidential appointee wouldn't have necessarily been a conflict of interest since the Vice President wasn't the "right hand man" to the President, as they are today. Now that the VP and the President co-run, and get elected together, honestly it is inappropriate for the Vice President to be able to vote on a cabinet appointment, since the appointment is coming essentially from his "team".

Of course there are enough people in this country who would never ever think of making improvements to our system of government or the constitution, so it will remain the way it is. Just an interesting observation I had.

I think Putin likes her. That is enough qualification.
