No need to wait, go tomorrow if you can. As you can see on my signature, my now husband's POE was on 3/12 and we went in on 3/17 to get his ssn and they had no issues finding him in the SAVE system since the i-94 is electronic. He POE'd on a sat. and we had to wait until thurs. due to my work schedule but it was only 5 days from his POE and no issues. You should be fine. Just make sure to have his passport with you along with the i-94 and it is a good idea to bring his birth certificate & translation if it needed it just in case. Some ask for it, some don't but it's better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it. Oh, and if you can go 1st thing in the morning, its always a good idea to show up 30mins before the office opens as I know our ssa offices are very long wait times if you come any later then that.

Much like everything else on VJ, people have different experiences, so some have different answers. Some get hit by the level 3 SAVE, some have no issues.

We did my husbands SSN the week after he got in because we had to do a correction on his I-94, as they put his name in wrong which was causing us not to be able to find his arrival/departure info for the K-1 entry. Even though we had his passport number, since his name was mistyped in the system it would never show up with any of his previous entries and departures. Either way, I assumed since it wasn't popping up online that it "needed time", which in reality it just wasn't in the system right. We would have been down at the office within a couple of days of entry.

 We went in to the SSA office the day after it was corrected and had no issues other than the first SS Card got lost in the mail, they confirmed that it was approved the same day we applied but simply lost and sent out a new one in which we got.|

There are some people though who end up waiting forever and keep getting told they're waiting for USCIS to send them info. This is either because their name is hitting for something or it's possible the SSA officer didn't type the information in right and that's kicking it around.


Again though, our experience was fairly easy even with the name wrong on the I-94 and it getting lost in the mail lol.

Or what happened for me, my name is too long to fit in their character field (it only fits 16 characters for first name I have 18). This happens a lot for ppl from different countries where name-giving doesn't fit the US way of doing things and has nothing to do with any "hits" or the SSO staff doing anything wrong.

Just wanted to clarify those things :) cause I had absolutely NO way to circumvent this level 3 check.

 

edit: i think maybe by online you meant the i-94? I had this checked too, so incredibly frustrating! lol I'm looking forward to the DMV going through the same thing lol

My wife waited until after we married to get her SSN.  She applied about 3 weeks before her I-94 expired. It was before she applied for her EAD.  They just needed passport, marriage certificate (for name change), and I-94.  In and out in about 15 min.  We received it a week later.

The official instructions on the website for the Social Security Administration say to wait 10 days (link below).  We got ours on the 9th day with no problems.  You can always ask the person if its in the system.  If it isn't, tell them you will come back another day.  Honestly, the Social Security administration has been the easiest part of our process yet!  :)

We did the same thing. I would recommend trying to get one ASAP especially as it makes it easier when filing taxes. If you have a SSN number then you won't need a  ITIN
