I didn't have an original copy of my birth certificate for my K1 interview today (had to give my original copy to Japan Embassy for a recent family trip to Japan and completely forgot to order a new one in time for my USEM K1 interview - careless mistake, I know!) but was approved anyway, just with a 221g for the birth cert. I asked Releasing how long it'll take and he told me it shouldn't take more than 2 weeks for my visa to be officially approved after they receive the birth cert... but I've been reading different things on the forums.

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to mine and how long the extra wait time was in your experience? I just ordered the birth certificate online and am expecting it by next Tuesday (Jan 10). I will also be sending it via 2GO on that same day. I am hoping to leave by mid-February 2017 (next month), hopefully before Valentine's Day, and I'm curious if I'll be able to make it. I also chose the PICK UP option, thinking that would be faster than having it delivered straight to my house.

Thanks! :)

UPDATE:

My birth certificate arrived Jan 10th, 2 business days after I ordered it on Jan 6th (right after my USEM interview). I immediately went to the closest 2GO branch to me and sent it to USEM the same day (Jan 10th). CEAC updated my visa status on Jan 12th to "Administrative Processing" - so I assume that's when they received my BC... No change in status yet as of today (Jan 16th). Hoping to see an update by the end of the week!

The way it was clouded over today, I thought it might rain.

Watch for status to change to READY, shortly after it should go to ISSUED.

Remember Monday was a U.S. holiday so the embassy wasn't open.

Visa chase and citizenship.. DONE!

I got certified original copies and sent one to the USEM. The other one I'll be bringing back with me to the US.

Nope, to ask what's happening at the USEM side. It's still in Administrative Processing, which I know is pretty normal since it's only been a week since they received my BC, so not really panicking or anything, but just wanna check on the status. :)

Thanks as always, Sagot! Will contact these numbers tomorrow.

Calling the embassy to check on status is a waste of time, you will only talk to the call center, they will repeat what is shown on your dashboard for status or the CEAC website... you are in AP.

No reason to be calling.  Relax, you're going to drive yourself nuts.   :clock:

If you need to call or email the embassy there is contact info in that link I gave you also.

Your in normal processing times so there is no need to call. You only add to the on the phone wait times for others with more important issues.

Here is what at each update on your record after interview.

The first AP is the immigration unit doing the paperwork for approving the visa

The first ready is a notice that they are finished and the paperwork is being sent for visa issuance

The second AP is the visa issuance people doing their own paperwork
the second ready is that the visa has been issued and is currently being processed for delivery

Then "issue" is posted and the visa has left the BIG house to YOUR house

Relax. Keep busy. Visit friends.  Eat ice cream it will calm your nerves.

Good info to know, thanks Greenbaum! This was basically what I needed to know, which I wanted to call about haha. Thanks as always for the advice - both you and Sagot! :)

Good info, except SnowCat is responding with a 221g for a document, this can add weeks ++ to the processing, over and above the normal processing times.  Hard to figure how long or "when" after a person gets a 221g.

Yeah it really sucks not knowing when to expect an update, but at least this gives me an idea of what's happening behind the scenes instead of being left completely in the dark.

Guess it could take up to a month before they issue my visa, based on some posts I've read here. Just gonna keep on hoping I get an update soon! The wait is excruciating. The long distance is killing me.
