You'll be fine. My spouse and I met online through deviantart.com (an artist and creativity website) and I'm currently in AOS from a K-1 visa. The COs probably EXPECT most people interviewed have met their significant others online in this day and age. It might have been weird for 1997, but definitely not for 2017.

We have never received an RFE for any part of the process, ever.

VERY good to know.....as my fiancee and I met on a dating site: AsianDating.com.

You actually have nothing to worry about.

How you spent time and the amount of time you physically spent together after you met is far more important than how you met.  Dating sites are not and have never been classified as "marriage broker" sites.

That was my understanding as well when I completed the I-129F. A dating site is NOT a marriage broker!! That much seemed abundantly clear to me!!

We met online as well and didn't go into specifics when we filed. Only wrote "met online". I know some people get RFEs for not stating what site they met on, I guess we were lucky.

I have come across accredited marriage brokers, and they are NOT dating sites. Nor are dating sites marriage brokers. I took this as an absolute since I had used internet dating sites since 1998 and did NOT send anything in the way of a statement that AsianDating.com is not a marriage broker. I have my NOA-1. If there is an issue with my NOA-2 for not filing a letter stating that AD is not a marriage broker, y'all will be hearing about it to settle the matter.

If you use the VJ search and write "asiandating.com rfe" you will see that many ppl have gotten rfe's for not sending a statement from that particular site. It's on here every so often even though not "correct". So even if you don't get one,  some still do. The best advice is to send one to be on the safe side since you might or might not.

From the site's (asiandating.com) service terms:

"The Service

The Service is an internet information service that facilitates contact between members who may or may not be seeking friendship or a relationship. It is not a marriage brokering service, mail order bride service or a matchmaking service. The Company is under no obligation to broker any other member or members for you."

Should suffice for anyone in doubt about dating sites in general. And it now occurs to me that receiving an RFE is merely a request for evidence, not for failing to file an IMBRA release statement, which is required when using a "marriage broker".

Sure but USCIS doesn't do research on these things, it's up to you to send proof that it isn't an IMBRA website, they will not go there to check.

I don't know if you understood what I meant/wrote? Even though the site IS NOT a MB ppl sometimes get rfe's asking for evidence that asiandating.com is not. That's why I meant that you can't "settle the matter" on if you get rfe's for it in general simply by you not getting one. So the best advice for ppl who read this thread wondering what to do, would be to send this evidence (the website statement has been enough) already from the start. :)

Although we found each other on a dating site, the wording of the question that seems to lead many to mention a dating site prompted me - after careful consideration - to word my response without mentioning a dating site. Sure we found each other on one, but one of us mentioned Skype in the first message, so it was on Skype we became acquainted and have had video chats twice/day since.

Hi,

My Fiance and I met on Skype. The officer commented that it is strange that we met on Skype. Suggest to show them your communication "after" you met online. I have screenshots of our video calling with time stamp, and our very first week sype chat (4yrs ago). I think that time in my mind i know we will  end up together. I also made a powerpoint presentation with our timeline showing pictures, his visa entry here in the ph, screenshots, etc and brought it during the interview. Mind you, other applicant i met there even have a hard bound craft book :)

Anyway, like what other members here said.... TELL THEM THE TRUE STORY.

Oh geez i don't know if you still can retrieve it from Skype chat logs. Try to load previous messages. What is your latest mean of communication? If fb or viber or iMessage, 1 yr data is enough i think. Tbh, the consul didn't even read our chat logs. He said he just need to see our pictures together (he came here to visit 4x and i went to the US to meet his family) so i guess the pictures are enough.

I did manage to get screen shots of my recent skype calls, at least showing there has been contact between us..with many of the calls lasting between 45 - 90 minutes. Also retrieved my QQ chat logs, didnt print all of them but got some as far back as Nov/Dec 2014 :D
