Living apart you won't see a person at their worst probably ever. Me and my husband knew after 6 months as well.. we filed after about a year and meeting once for 3 months. There is time for lots of courtship and discovery during this time :D

Also life is too short to not take some risks and live it to the fullest (not saying she shouldn't take precautions when meeting as described by another member). Some marriages don't last even if ppl knew each other for years ahead and some last forever after a few months. None of us know how well they know the "real" eachother. You can only ever put your trust and all in and hope for the best.

Anyhow, we are all different in risk-taking..I'm sure OP and bf will make the right decision for them :)

Tack så mycket för all hjälp!

I have been discussing this quite a bit with him and we thought maybe we could first meet once I graduate... But the question is, can you apply for a fiance visa while I'm still staying in the US? Or would I have to first go home to apply for it?

If so, we would meet for a few weeks and then apply for it and is it then possible to visit the US or have him visit me while the application is procressing?

Thanks for all the help from everyone!

The process starts with the fiancé filing the i-129f petition to the USCIS. He can do this while you are visiting. The biggest problem might be port-of-entry cause you'd have to show that you are going to return to Sweden or you might risk getting turned away at the border if they think you might just stay. That said, plenty of ppl also do visit fiancés without a problem as well.

You'd need to be in Sweden when it comes time for the medical and the embassy interview. Yes you can visit during the process, again showing that you intend to return when entering the US might be an issue since you are not tied to Sweden by job or similar. I haven't tried this myself. Maybe you can research it a bit on here and get advice from ppl that did this :) Also there is a Scandinavian sub-forum with ppl in all parts of the process :)

I just applied for an ESTA, packed my bags and my passport and headed over to the US without any issues all the times I visited my then boyfriend/fiancé. I didn't have a job or much else that showed ties to Sweden and was never asked for any such proof either. You're lucky to be from Sweden, CBP usually never even raise an eyebrow or ask you anything when you go to the US as a visitor, swedes are just not very fraudulent I guess. :-P

And yes I was honest with CBP everytime, told them I was there to visit my boyfriend/fiancé.

I'd definitely recommend you two to spend quite a bit of time together irl before committing to marriage. And document it all! If you still decide to go for a visa later on it's good to have lots of proof of bonafide relationship.

OP thread lightly is all I will say as the parent of a teen I just know she is not

going across the Atlantic to meet ANY penpals especially one that will  encourage

her to do so & she is not yet graduated from school. The young man need to travel

to your home town, check in a hotel, meet you and your parents while you both go

on dates & get to know each other, you Missy should not go to the hotel, but

show him around & enjoy each other company, when he departs he should have

the utmost respect for you

My fiance and I met online when we were both barely seventeen and my parents, like yours, were a little skeptical about us meeting in person. It took one and a half years of dating and us both being eighteen for it to work out for him to visit me in the US. Now my whole family loves him. We've spent almost six months together in person and were approved for a K-1 this month even though we're only twenty. :) Our age was not questioned at all by anyone throughout the visa process and the interview was extremely easy for my fiance. We finished the whole process in exactly four months. :)

The affidavit of support (form I-134) is an important part of the application process and I had to have a co sponsor in order to be approved. Does your fiance make enough to bring you over if you choose to apply? If not, would there be someone who'd be willing to be a co sponsor? Would he be able to come over and visit you in order to prove himself to your parents? My parents felt completely different about the whole relationship after he came over. It showed that he was serious about me. :)

This brings joy to me knowing that someone else went through the same things I am currently going through and knowing that they succeeded through it and managed to get together with their very special someone makes me so happy! There is hope :')

Yes, he mentioned that if he doesn't make enough money by the time we actually want to apply for the VISA (which is some time this summer/august most likely) he said his mom could be a sponsor to me. :) And only 4 months for the process to finish is amazing... I'm so excited for you guys! I wish you the very best!! <3

A quick question, lets say we have met and decided that we want to still get married and he proposes to me... Where do we start? What application or form is to be filled?

Best way is to start for both of you to read these guides:

http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow

http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1tips

http://www.visajourney.com/faq/k1faq.htm

Your fiancé would start by filing a i-129f with supporting documents for you to the USCIS. This is refered to as the "K1-packet" and there are tons of YouTube tips on how to assemble these and what to put in etc. Those clips can be good to watch but nothing beats this VJ communities shared knowledge and the guides here are good :)
