Washed up actors crying about Trump and Electoral College

It's still a misleading way of looking at it though. If electoral votes were split proportionately, as has been discussed a few times previously, Clinton would have been ahead by one, so its not like she didn't have a lot of support in other states with only California and a few other blue states balancing that out. In essence, it shows there were way more democrats in red states whose votes are essentially meaningless (in 2016) than the other way around.

Interestingly enough, since split electoral votes have been mentioned in a few threads, 7 of the 15 elections going back to 1960 would have been decided by congress under that scenario (if 270 electoral votes was still kept as the threshold). That means Trump still would have won this election. The only election that definitely would have been different is 1996, where neither candidate had 270 and neither house had a majority.

That is very interesting, thanks. Did you do the math yourself? I had thought about it but couldn't be bothered lol. If so, what kind of proportionality did you use?

You really need to stop bringing up his intelligence like this. It only makes him look smarter, and you... Not so.

Bankruptcy is a smart move the majority of the time.

When you say neither house had a majority in 1996, what exactly do you mean? I thought in 1996, both houses were controlled by the GOP? Other than that, a very interesting analysis. Edited by Bill & Katya

For determining the presidency through congress, each state gets one vote. The delegations from each state first vote at the state level to determine who they will vote for president. If the state delegation ends up tied, that state loses it's vote. A majority of 26 states is needed to determine the president, and there were only 25 states with Republican majorities in 1996 and 18 with Democrat. It's possible the Republicans could have picked up one other state of course.

The senate would have elected the vice president, and as far as I can find, if the house does not elect a president, the vice president assumes the role. That would have (possibly) made Jack Kemp the president instead of Clinton.

It was all online already. It would be interesting to do the math, but I don't know if I could find the time. For this election, I could only find a break down based on popular vote. I imagine because its faster to do that way, although not as accurate. Previous elections seem to be broken down in more ways.

I was surprised all in all how most elections don't change. It made some of the 'landslides' look pretty close, but did't change the outcomes.

Thanks for the clarification, I hadn't looked that deeply into the makeup of congress.

The history of how the 12th amendment came about is actually kind of interesting.

I sincerely hope that a fair number of electors' refuse to vote for Donald Trump. He lost the popular vote by nearly three million, and won the electoral college by fewer than sixty thousand votes in three States. Trump has no mandate and has continued to be the same un-Presidential egomaniac he was during his campaign.

Trump and Hillary tailored their campaign strategy towards electoral votes and not the popular votes. Trump ran a better campaign by the rules in place than Hillary did and for that reason he won.the popular vote has no relevance whatsoever. Had the rules been different and the popular vote decided the election both candidates would have run their campaigns differently and Trump still would have won so I don't want to hear anymore whining about the popular vote.

seems you believe i had no idea anyone other than donald trump had filed bankruptcy. thanks for the list but it's not needed. where i come from, filing bankruptcy is a huge deal. not a 'smart business move'. guess you're from team elite? i don't think we've met.
