So a few days ago I finally received my plastic green!! Excited as I was, I decided to upload a pic of it on social media (of course I blurred out the USCIS #, resident since, and expiration date.

However, I uploaded it, I realized that I'd forgotten to blur out my date of birth, and also my IOE receipt number can be seen in the background (the A number is covered by the card).

After I noticed all that, I took the picture off my social media platform. So is it safe what I did? Can people steal my information or mess it up??

It's definetively not safe or adviceable to make your personal information available like that. Will it have any negative consequences for you this time? Hard to tell, depends on who saw the picture before you deleted it.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

Quite clearly it wasn't a wise move. I'm sure you were excited to have the GC in hand and wanted to let your circle of friends know but in this day and age you gave to watch every step you make particularly on social media.

Don't fret about it as what's done is done, if you took it down swiftly then probably nobody scrutinised it too closely.

A lesson learned I hope and one for others to take heed of if they are thinking of doing the same thing... just stop and think amidst all that excitement, would you put your passport bio page or credit card on display? Most likely not as there is a fair amount of detail on the card.

Doubt anyone can mess up your GC, Worst case scenario is people attempting to steal your identity (take out loans etc but that truly is worst case and hard for people to do with just the details on your GC).

Thanks for replying! I just called USCIS and told her about this incident and she basically told me that a receipt number is used for tracking cases (similar to that of a post office) no identity is shown or assigned with this number (as opposed to SSN #). I also used to have an app for tracking cases on my phone but deleted it shortly after.

Yes you get very little information from the receipt number alone other than anyone can look at progress of cases on the USCIS website or app so deleting that off your phone dies very little.

Don't worry about it as chances are nothing will come if it apart from people congratulating you on becoming a LPR !!

Enjoy the new life and live prosperously.
