Get Driver's License in Oklahoma or Canada?

Hi all,

I know there are currently several active topics related to driver's licenses, but I didn't want to hijack a thread with my issues.

My husband currently has a G1 license in Toronto, ON. Would it be better for him to just wait to finish up getting a license in Oklahoma when he gets here (hopefully early next year!), or would it be easier to get his license in Canada, and then take whatever test Oklahoma requires? I tried to figure out what Oklahoma's procedures are for non-US citizens getting a license, but I came up short, so not sure what he'll need to do to transfer/get a license.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

There is a very small list of countries that Oklahoma will transfer a license from. Everyone else has to still take the written & driving tests and pass to get their Oklahoma license. You will need to call your local DMV Driver's License Exam Station(s) and ask them if they will transfer it from Canada or if he will have to retest. My husband had a valid Norwegian license; however, Norway is not on their list of transferrable licenses so he had to take both tests but it wasn't a big deal to do.
