Ukrainian embassy and interview [merged threads]

Does everyone need this? Or only people who have served in the military? My fiancé is Ukrainian (not sure if this is country specific or not)

My fiancé tried to get his military document today saying he is registered but they want proof he is coming to the US soon because it is war time there :/ can someone who's had to get this document recently tell me if you also had problems? and what proof did you give them? We are hoping to schedule his interview this week

Since you don't want to tell your gender is makes it hard to answer your question......If your other half is a Ukrainian male he may have to show he has no military obligation or has been discharged.

There is a conscription (military draft) in effect in Ukraine. All eligible males 18- I think 25 or 27, are required to register and have a military obligation if called upon to serve. Has your fiancé served in the military? If yes, there is typically the equivalent of "discharge" papers stating his military obligation has been completed. Or is he in the age group that requires registration? There is a problem in Ukraine where males that are required to register, are not doing so.

I saw a couple older posts about this on VJ, but seeing as how times and political situations have changed, they don't seem of much value now.

It's rare for Ukrainian/Russian men to be the beneficiary as it's usually women, my husband also is working on some documents involving his military service. Hope you'll get a document and everything will be ok in the end. I'm assuming he's under 27?

What about men that went to college instead and left the county before age 24, and they are currently over 27? My S.O. was/is Ukrainian, but with Russia taking over Crimea, they had to switch over to Russian passports.

Currently 27 and older, you're golden, even if you dodged the draft the entire time and never served. Once you're 27 and up, they can't take you or do anything against you. That's in Russia. Not sure about Ukraine.

But in Russia, under 27's are expected to serve and I'm pretty sure "I'm moving to the US!" isn't a valid discharge. My husband is going through the most insane stuff right now to get a medical discharge certificate and it's so mind-boggling how much bureaucracy is involved. Be glad if he's over 27 now!! It's really a relief.

So he's still Ukrainian by nationality then?

It's possible that the Ukrainians are much stricter about it than the Russians, since they have an active war going on. Might be stricter in Crimea as well. Unfortunately I don't know anyone or have experience with that region, I'm way up in the north here in the city formerly known as Leningrad. But most Russians I know here who've avoided military service have successfully travelled abroad and nothing happened once they turned 27. They came and went without any checks or anything at the border.
