What happens after NOA2?

40 posts in this topic

We are excited – I (the American petitioner) just got our NOA2 from Frankfurt, Germany! But, we aren't sure what happens next. The letter says:

USCIS forwarded the approved petition to the Consular Section at the U.S. Embassy or Consuulate in Frankfurt, Germany.... The Consular Section...will contact the beneficiary and provide instructions about applying for a visa.

So now are we simply waiting for something in the mail addressed to my husband, with the next steps? Should this come fairly soon?

Thank you!! :dancing:

Congrats for your approval!!

Directly to the embassy? Not NVC?

Because you'll need a case number from the NVC to proceed to the payment of the visa fees and file online the DS 160 form, on CEAC website.

In any case, gather all the documents you will need for the interview, you can find in Regional forum here an approximate list of what they will need from you. Prepare them all, then schedule a medical appointement (you can check on US embassy website in Germany, the accredited doctors) then schedule your interview.

This is a summary of what you should do next. Find more in the Regional forum. VJ'ers feel free to correct this or add if anything .

Good luck with your journey.

Thanks Nin&Way! :) I just want to make sure I was clear: we got our NOA2, approval of our I-130 marriage-based immigration petition. And yes, directly from the Frankfurt embassy because we are doing DCF.

That's why I'm confused – we are apparently waiting for some other letter to come in the mail with instructions to my husband so then he can apply. Maybe that other letter will contain our case number?

Good idea, we will start gathering the info we need for the interview and I will also start working on the I-864.

Thanks for the tip about the regional forum, didn't know about it yet!!

Hi, can anyone who went through DCF themselves, tell me what happened after they got their NOA2? Like, did you have to wait for another mail to the "alien" before you started the application process? Thanks!!

After the embassy approved you petition they will send it to nvc in the country you filed , nvc will send you a case number for you to fill out the visa applications and once that's done they give you a confirmation code so you can schedule your interview

My husband received his noa2 9-26

Reached nvc 9-28 though it usually takes 2 weeks

We have a interview for 10-12

If you have any other questions feel free to ask

The case number is sent to you email

Jennifer, congrats on getting your interview scheduled! :)

Thanks for sharing your experience. So it took 2 days for the consulate to send the approval info to the nvc, then the nvc emailed you/your hsuband (the "alien") with a case number so he could apply? don't they send you something in the mail, "packet 3" or something, with all the instructions?

Thank you again so much!! Drives me crazy not to know what happens. It's been a week now so I guess I won't wonder what's going on too much, for another week.

Thank you so much !!!!

We actually went to the embassy to find out what the status of the case was it took longer than usual to process but the guy told us approved and said it will take about 2 weeks to get to the visa center aboard but it took a day and even the lady at the visa center was surprised how quick it for there lol. We haven't received anything in the mail yet only through my email but there is a link attached with further instructions. I'm the same way I need to know exactly what is going on especially with my husband status lol.

I'm also not a patient person at all which makes it so much worse.

Best of luck to you and again if you have any questions just ask

Thanks again! We will be watching our email closely.....

Another Q: so all those things you need to provide along with your visa application, like police report, marriage & birth certificate, etc., did you mail those to the visa center and they had to receive it all before you get an interview? Or did you make an interview appointment after you submitted the visa application online? Confused about how all the paperwork fits into the process timewise.

Many thanks again!

For us we have a appointment at the visa center this Tuesday were they take his picture and finger prints and all we bring is the confirmation page for the visa , proof of his appointment and his passport.

The police certificate, affidavit of support , proof of bonafide relationship, birth certificate all goes with you to the embassy. I thought we had to upload it to his visa applications but it's not necessary.

While your waiting I would get everything else ready for the interview at the embassy if you need a cosponsor for the affidavit of support make sure they send that to you a sap it can not be a copy it must be a actually signature on the form. Also once you get you appointment your spouse needs to do the medical at least a week before the interview at the embassy.

Your welcome !!!!

Hi Jennifer, thank you again for all your help! I'm in prep mode. :D

It might be different country to country... on Frankfurt's instructions page it says to mail them the supporting info. It's across the country so I think we won't have to go there until the interview.

Question about scheduling the interview: once you were approved to schedule the interview, did they choose the date or did you? Could you choose a date far into the future like another month, or did you have to choose one in the very near future? We don't actually want to go to the US until next Spring so I'm trying to sort out when to do what. :)

Good Luck on Tuesday!!! :star::goofy:

Cheers,
Danielle

When my husband did his visa application online it also said to upload the police certificado , affidavit of support ect but when he called to make the appointment they told him it was not necessary and to bring them to the interview at the embassy. When I looked online the earliest appointment was nov 2 but we have a 2 week earlier appointment and I'm not sure if he picked that day or they gave it to him but I'm sure he said the soonest possible date lol. You can try to ask them for a later date if you want to stay longer

Ahh interesting about being in the high-fraud country. But it sounds like you have done great so far and you are really prepared and so close! I imagine it's VERY normal to be nervous at this point but I bet it will go well! I'd love to hear how it went. Good luck again for the next 2 days!!! :goofy:

Also I've been working a lot on organizing the forms we need, started working on the I-864, etc. Thanks for the nudge!
