Hi,

I have a question. My husband's interview is next month Oct 31 at the islamabad embassy. My husband's passport expires April 2017. He wants to renew it now but I wanted to know is it too late to do that right before his interview?

When is the medical exam scheduled? They need to see original passport at medical too.

How long does the passport renewal takes? I dont think it takes more than 2 weeks now.

His medical is Oct 3. Can we show his old passport for that if we have sent for a renewal?

It does take 15 days to renew normal. I want to ask embassy but they don't take questions over the phone on visa stuff.

Oct. 3 is kinda early to get the medical done if interivew is on Oct. 31. I would suggest to renew the passport as soon as possible (go for one with 10 year validity) and get the medical exam done around Oct. 20.

Which city will you get the medical exam done btw? I got my medical exam done in Isb on Monday, and had the medical exam results in hand by Thursday the same week.

P.s: going witht the current passport is not an option since it expires sooner than 6 months from the interivew date.

I am not sure if embassy allows to renew the passport a month before interview. I did email them but they sent me 2 responses. One was that if his visa is issued same day, he has 4 months still. In the same response they said that "passport should be renew before 2 months of visa issuance" which is why I am asking this.

I am most likely going to have his passport renewed in urgent days rather than normal.

Isn't medical valid for six months? Does it matter we do Oct 3 rather than Oct 15 or 20?

We live in lahore so he is going to get it done in lahore. It takes 5 days to get the results.

I was under the impression that embassies require atleast 6 months of validity on the passport at the time of applying for visa. I didnt know the 2 month rule.

Medical is valid for 6 months. Does not matter what date you have your medical exam. All that is required is that you have it with you when you go for visa interview. Generally, the goal is to have is done close to interiview so if the case goes to AP, medical does not expire before AP is over and visa is issued. Otherwise you would have to get a new medical exam done.

I would call the medical place and ask them how many days they take for the medical exam report to be prepared.

Medical takes 5 days to get the results according to the clinic. They also said that it is okay to bring a valid passport so the current passport is okay.

I am worried about the interview passport thing. I wasn't aware of that rule either so which is why I am asking here to see if someone can shed some light.

According to new embassy website inquiries on visa is not allowed on phone. Should I still call and ask?

When we applied for his petition in March he had a whole year and we didn't expect his case to pass through smoothly so quickly bUT everything has been quick. I didn't know that rule either about 2 months otherwise I would have renewed it back in August when his case was still at nvc. I am just thinking of having his passport renewed regardless and will take both passports.

Yes I was with him the whole time, if you are the petitioner they allow you to accompany your beneficiary

Also interviews are conducted at windows in the waiting room, think of the setup as being sort of like a bank
