Hi,

I'm sorry if this has been discussed before. I was very active in the VJ forums in my earlier days of immigrating and applied for N-400 in 01/2016.

I recently inquired about my case status and they are doing an FBI name check as of 8/29/2016. I had completed my biometrics in 2/2016.

How long does the name check typically take, and from then how long am I looking at to go through the rest of the steps to take the oath? My local office is Detroit, MI.

Thank you in advance!

ROC Journey:

01/19/11 I-751 & ROC package sent via USPS Priority

01/21/11 Package delivered to California Service Center

01/25/11 Check cashed

03/07/11 Biometrics

04/14/11 Approval Notice Date

04/18/11 Approval Notice Received

Just a matter of days in the best cases.

If things slow down, 3-6 months is possible. In a few cases, longer than that, but if it's been more than 6 months, then there's a very good chance that something is wrong Sometimes the background check is actually completed but your file is such a side or forgotten And sometimes there's an actual delay in the background check. If it's been over six months since biometrics, I would go through the usual steps of calling, making an appointment in visiting in person, and eventually contacting your political representatives to see if they can secure any movement on your application or at least get you an update.
