Colin Kaepernick hates America.

That feeling, or something like it, has been expressed a lot over the last few days, after the San Francisco 49ers quarterback refused to stand for the National Anthem.

Kaepernick is outraged over the killing of minority citizens by police, and he’s been additionally disappointed in the response by his fellow citizens to those killings. That response, in much of the country, has been indifference to the deaths, and even some argument that the deceased had it coming.

For this stance and his choice of protest, Kaepernick has become a punching bag for America’s right-wing conservatives.

Kaepernick is ungrateful, people have said. He’s downright childish for this publicity stunt, they feel. With a $19 million-per-year salary, what could he possibly have to be upset about, they want to know.

But mostly, to sum up all of social media, conservative America wants Colin Kaepernick to shut up and play football, and be happy he has the opportunity.

The nerve of a guy making all that money and then questioning the country which provided him the opportunity to work like crazy and earn it. What an ungrateful prima donna.

In a matter of days, Kaepernick has become the face of ungratefulness. He has been labeled a spoiled child. People have questioned his motives and his means of protest.

All because a minority athlete who makes a lot of money decided to draw attention to something that he feels is a national wrong.

Apparently, that is wrong.

My questions, why does Donald Duck Trump get to say America is not great while a half black man cannot say there are problems with America without being vilified?

He can't point out injustices while Trump gets to say Mexico sends us rapist and murders. The double standard is strong in these people

They could start by maybe rallying around an idea that's not based in the false narrwive that black people qre being hunted down and executed by the police and instead maybe protest the democrat party holding many of them in poverty for the last 60 some ought years just to secure their vote.

Systemic injustice is tolerated in this country. Fortunate for you and I that it's something we only have to read about, and look the other way or dismiss if we want. It's not something we have to live with day in and day out. I will say though, that a society that tolerates systemic injustice will eventually be systematically unjust. Accept it long enough and it becomes the new normal. Civil rights are eroding for everyone. It affects minorities disproportionately, but don't be surprised when you end up on the receiving end.

The nations poorest county Owsley, Kentucky is more than 98 percent white. (And its only getting poorer.) In 2014, National Reviews Kevin Williams made Owsley the subject of a piece titled The Big White Ghetto.

If the people here werent 98.5 percent white, wed call it a reservation, Williams wrote.
