Approved at interview- still no visa Sydney Australia

My fiancé was approved for his k-1 visa at the Sydney embassy in Australia on August 31. The consular officer said to expect his passport in 1-2 business days. It's been one week since the interview and his status on CEAC still says "ready" for interview... We are really worried about the delay as this isn't typical for the Sydney Embassy. What has been your experience with the Sydney Embassy issuing the visa? And is it unusual for the CEAC website to be infrequently updated?

Thank you.

Hi there. I had my interview on 30th August and I just received my passport back yesterday (I'm from Brisbane). I don't know how to help you but just wanted to share my experience. It's been an easy process once the petition got to Aus that's for sure.

Hey Sam, thanks for you response! That's great to know! Have you checked the ceac website to see if they changed your statue from Ready to In Transit? Also, do you recall what courier service delivered your visa? Thanks again!

I actually got an email from the embassy on the Friday saying it had been issued and I received the courier tracking. But the CEAC status hadn't been updated yet, it still showed ready. It was Toll Priority. So shipped on Friday, delivered on Monday morning at 9am. Super efficient!!

outlifeuncharted - This isn't about the time it takes them to send, but the CEAC website has said 'In Transit' for me since before the consulate even received my petition. It also said I had been given my interview (or whatever ambiguous wording) since before it even landed in Aus. I believe the last time they update that is when they send it off to your country, so I wouldn't go by that site at all.

CEAC website updates were right for me except for the couple of ours difference it took to change from Administrative Processing to Issued. This is the CEAC timeline for me:

Once I got the case number from NVC it changed to 'In Transit'

3 business days later I got an email from the embassy with the interview details, I checked CEAC and later it said 'Ready'

Stayed as ready until the day after my interview when it changed to Administrative Processing

Then 2 days after that I got the shipping email from Toll Priority, and it took about 4 hours to update CEAC then.

For me it was definitely a great guide.

Just an update: it's September 9th. 10 days since his interview. Still NO VISA. No change on ceac.gov and every attempt to contact the embassy about this issue has been met with a passive aggressive "stop contacting us and go away" attitude with absolutely no information. So we are really stressing out.

Hi Anita! I've been silently following your journey since March when we filed! :) thanks for your input. When you emailed your senator what information did you include? I honestly can't believe how long this is taking considering we've gotta be one of the most boring and easiest of cases they come across.

Hey guys,

Any update from the people still waiting on passports after interviews in Australia?

My fiancé had her interview in the Sydney consulate on 13-Sep and it was approved. At that time the consular officer told her that her visa was approved and that she could expect to receive in in about 2 weeks.

Currently, the CEAC status says that it's in Administrative Processing..... :(

Hey Jason,

Administrative processing is not a bad thing. The usual order of things is that it goes from:

1. Ready

2. Administrative Processing

3. Issued

Look at my post above to see the timeframes between the updates.

After update says "Issued" you should get an email from the consulate to advise on delivery and tracking number.

The CO at my interview said i was approved and should receive passport back in a couple of days which turned out to be about 10 business days (and it was a public holiday in US too)

You should get an update soon so don't worry but if you do get restless you can email the consulate but they will generally give you a standard response of "it's in administrative processing" or "to wait another 2 weeks".

cheers,

Alejandro.
