Effects of Environmental Regulations on the Dairy Industry in California

This dissertation is a study of the economics of the environmental regulation of agricultural and food production, with a focus on the dairy industry in California. In this dissertation, I examine two sets of environmental regulations related to the dairy industry in California: the greenhouse gas (GHG) cap-and-trade program adopted by the California Air Resources Board in 2011, and the air quality rule on confined animal facilities introduced in the San Joaquin Valley in 2006.

Rule 4570 increased hired labor costs by $0.23 per cwt of milk and increased operating costs by $0.25 per cwt of milk. These estimated effects of the amended Rule are equivalent to a 16% and a 10% increase in hired labor costs and operating costs for dairy farms covered by the Rule. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)

Years ago, I read (and did not save) an article in which it was stated that the front and rear emissions from one Norwegian moose did more harm to the environment than the emissions from [a certain type, which I've forgotten] a car traveling across Norway.

If the above could be proven on a consistent, large-scale basis, it might pit the animal-rights activists against the environmentalists. The rest of us could then sit back and bet on the outcome.

No need to be so politically correct. I know you are a moderator an all….but come on…anybody? I wish death to all members of ISIS…all child molesters…all mass murderers etc.

The world would be a much better place if they were all dead. The same can be said for many of the extreme environmentalists and extreme peta members.
