Yes but on campus only. You must see your DSO for the paperwork and to get instructions on how to get your SSN

Yes, you can have a part-time job on campus

OR

A part-time job at another campus with your school's approval

OR

Due to extend hardship, you can work off campus more than 20 hours with your school's approval.

Be aware that not all schools offer all 3 options. Good luck!

In order to get approved for a student visa, you have to prove to the visa officer that you can afford all of the expenses of the first year (tuition and fees, books, etc., plus living quarters, food, and personal expenses). The proof of this should be in liquid assets (cash or monetary documents that are readily converted to cash). In addition, you have to show an income stream that will cover the remaining years of schooling. Since you are still in the application process, you need to be aware of this -- sounds like, if you are already planning for the need to work in the US, you will have some difficulty qualifying for the visa.

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

When I come to Virginia or Carolina to study, I need to find a place to stay. I met a person online , he is a realtor and he said he will help me to find a good PG at affordable rate and I have to prepare everything like my place to stay, before I go to study there.​ So I need a tourist or K1 (initially I thought K1 is to meet relatives/friends but now I know its a wedding visa)visa to go meet the person to see my place near college and to get an idea of how I am going to survive there for next 2 years, before a month of my classes start. Also I have to work part time there and I think its a common practice all over the world that students work to cover their small expenses wherever they study. I am clear now ! :) I am not casting a wide net.. ! Thanks.

It seems like you've never been to the US before, and it seems like you are not practicing internet safety. Why would you meet a realtor online who offers "special help?" It seems shady (unless this is your boyfriend?) You can find no fee apartments online, and roommates, etc. And the max fee a realtor would get to find an apartment is like 1 month or 1.5 months rent. If you can afford college in the US, and afford coming here on a scouting trip and then paying airfare back, then you can afford a realtor fee from a normal realtor you find in the yellow pages. They are a dime a dozen.
