Trump shames Obama into visiting Louisiana’s victims

Kudos to Donald Trump for dragging the media spotlight to the flood-ravaged areas around Baton Rouge — and shaming President Obama into belatedly scheduling a visit, though not until next Tuesday.

Waters rising in the wake of record rainfalls have killed 13 Louisianians, displaced another 85,000-plus and damaged more than 40,000 homes.

It’s the worst disaster to hit the state since Hurricane Katrina — yet it garnered far less attention, from the media or the White House, until Trump announced his trip.

Trump is living up to his words in North Carolina the other night: “We are one nation. When one state hurts, we all hurt. We must all work together — to lift each other up.” Hours later, he and running mate Mike Pence were touring battered Baton Rouge.

That made the president look like a hypocrite. After all, as a presidential candidate back in 2008, then-Sen. Barack Obama slammed George W. Bush as “a president who only saw people from the window of an airplane instead of down here on the ground, trying to provide comfort and aid.”

The "real" reason behind the story:

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards asks president to stay home...

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards is defending the Obama administration's response to the severe flooding in his state.

President Barack Obama has received criticism for staying on vacation rather than traveling to Louisiana to see the damage first-hand.

But Edwards said Thursday that he's spoken with the White House daily and has received quick responses for each request he's made to the administration. He noted that FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate visited the state Tuesday and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson was in-state Thursday.

Edwards said he is "not complaining in any way about our federal partnership."

He added that while the President can visit whenever he'd like, he'd prefer him to wait "a week or two" because such visits require local police and first responders to help block roads and provide security.

Both Obama and Edwards are Democrats.

We know the disaster response of the Obama administration has generally been praised by governors regardless of party affiliation. Governor Chris Christie made that very clear four years ago. Republicans hated him for it.

ETA: Trump shamed Obama into visting Louisiana? That's so delusional and ridiculous a claim that I can only
