Financial support-- are savings enough?

I plan on starting the process to bring my Brazilian husband to the USA. We live in Brazil. We have more than enough savings in the USA to meet the poverty threshold. In your experience or knowledge, will proof of savings be enough? I can get a family member to sponsor me, but I'd prefer to avoid that.

Money in savings is considered an asset, not yearly income. You will need 3x the amount in cash over the poverty guidelines.

According to the website it sounds like it is dependant upon the immigration status of the petitioner. Spouses of US citizens need 3x. So that would mean that spouses of an LPR would still need 5x.

Thank you. So it looks like I will need to prove about 60,000 dollars.

One more question-- if I get a family member to jointly sponsor, will I have to be living with the family member(or in the same city) for them to be considered a sponsor?

Nope, the sponsor can be any citizen in any state as long as they meet the required income level

We sponsored me on assets only; as long as you are comfortably over the x3 poverty line you should be fine.

The co-sponsor can be any US citizen or greencard holder living in the USA, they need not be related or live near you.

Us too, they used our assets only. I am not sure if it is consistant across all consulates but the one we went through had some kind of a bone to pick to make sure that the cash was in the US, which I made sure I could show that it was.

It might just be because I have read it multiple times over this past year on this forum, about the money being IN the US.
