Tourist visa on a ban

Hello, I was hoping someone could help me. I was a kid when my parents took me to the States seeking asylum. I lived in the States for years but the asylum eventually got denied and we were deported with a 10 year ban. I was an adult when I got deported. I have been living in my home country now for 8 years but would like to return to the States to visit places and also friends. Does anyone here know if someone has ever being approved a tourist visa after deportation? Must I wait the 10 years? I have only traveled to Costa Rica and Europe (on a multi country vacation package) within the last year. I am from Latin America and have sufficient funds and a well paid job. I feel it is hard to show that I do not plan on moving back to the US. Will I ever be able to return as a visitor?

Why would you not have to wait the 10 years?

Bogus asylum claims are not looked upon favourably.

Ive read where you can apply for a visa and if approved you then apply for a waiver. Not sure if a tourist visa applies though.

So then what is the point of the 10-year ban? To ban you until you apply for a visa with a waiver before 10 years? I still don't see why you think the ban no longer applies to you. Did your circumstances change? Are you now able to prove you were wrongfully deported? If so, what documentation do you have?

I have heard of it yes (not myself, just cases on here and on a country specific board for my home country), but it is rare. You probably have a better case than most, as you were brought in as a minor, so that part was not your free will, though you staying after you turned 18 will cause the ban. From the way you are saying it, you may not even need a waiver after the ten years are up.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Thank you all for your replies. I think I will wait a few more years and see what happens.

Good decision. After the 10 years you will not have to file any complex waivers. You will need compelling reasons though. Good luck!

After 10 years there will be no waiver needed be honest to the CO, you were a minor

and not at a decision making age, since you left after 18.5 years old the ban applies to

you also, but you did not file a frivolous asylum petition, continue to strengthen your

case in savings and more ties to your country You could be successful in 24 months if

your present a good application with evidences of your ties
