Pastor at Muhammad Ali funeral: Star-Spangled Banner 'celebrates slavery'

A pastor speaking at Muhammad Ali's funeral on Friday claimed the national anthem "celebrates slavery."

Rev. Kevin Cosby, pastor of St. Stephen Church in Louisville, Ky., used the U.S. Constitution to illustrate his claim that "every sacred document in our history conspired to convince the African in America that when God made the African, God was guilty of creative maleficence."

"And even Francis Scott Key in his writing of The Star-Spangled Banner … He celebrates slavery by saying 'No refuge could save the hireling and slave from the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave," said Rev. Cosby at the Friday memorial service for the boxing great and civil rights activist.

Forced conscription during Vietnam (a war that did nothing to make the US safer) equates to government tyranny. Its laughable that someone would evoke national "freedom" and Vietnam in the same sentence.

The Vietnam War was my childhood. Studied in depth in Officer training and on my own. I probably know more real history of it than most here. Your assertion on Vietnam is spot on. It was a blight on American history.

The people that served there are held in my highest regard.

A draft dodger is a draft dodger however. Granting amnesty to the chicken waste Canada crowd was one of many things the dumbest peanut head president ever did
