Spouse Visa

I am a non-US citizen living in Nigeria. My fiancé (the US citizen) is visiting to meet me for the first time. We are considering whether to file the K-1 visa afterwards or get married and file spouse visa. I would appreciate if anyone has advise to send to us regarding the two routes and which one best or faster. Also if we decide to get married' which marriage registry does the embassy accept. Thanks for your anticipated responses.

I think most people would say a CR1 is best, but a K1 is faster, it would be best for you to read the guides and decide what is best for your situation. Regardless of what you decide, I would suggest making additional visits as this is not known as an easy consulate.

cr1 usually takes longer but yu dont have to file AOS , k1 is faster , but its all based on is your case is a straight forward case or a complicated one

Any registry any state is acceptable they all use the same marriage certificate that's what the embassy wants to see.

As far as whats best. You have to decide that based on your relationship, red flags, issues concerns. You should be more focus in what has the best success rate not what is faster. Ad for Lagos it can go either way. So first meet and then decide. Your meting will determine what you will do.

Marrying on the first meeting is a red flag for Nigeria unless you are planning for more visits before the interview.
