everything you're mentioning from the koran can be pulled from the bible too. big old religions are patriarchal and treat women as tools to be used by men. these books come from a time when women were possessions, so not really surprising women still get treated as such - everyone is still following the same archaic religions and leaving the nasty "sell your daughter's virginity to get out of a bind" parts of their scripture up to individual interpretation.

then is it the "culture " of the Syrian refugees rather than the religion aspect that has caused all the rapes and groping that is happening all over Europe ... We have not any reports of thousand of German Christians groping and raping Muslim women that night.

Watched this last night. Still topical.

So are you capable of discussing this topic or only have trite youtube videos drawn from fictional tv shows? I'm asking whether your view has subtance, but that question is rhetorical just as my last was.

but, but, the Crusades!

Good luck!

Except jews are not citing the old testament as they stone people and cut body parts off.

Your argument pleads that there is no difference in religions or their acolytes despite a preponderance of evidence to the contrary.

i knew that was coming, you know how i feel. both religions are bunk and have no place in civilized society. do i think bible believin' christians should take a good long honest look at their bible before they start goin on about the koran's treatment of women? yes. i'm not defending islam in saying that but of course that is how it's going to be received (as always). of course there are differences between the two religions, but ultimately it's their similarities that i see affecting our current culture.

no, the police should be arresting whoever assulted these women. the perpetrators are the cause. the religion, again, is NOT A TANGIBLE THING YOU CAN PUT IN JAIL. jeez why is this so difficult for you guys?

But what makes these perpetrators do this? What is it about their culture or religion that encourages treating women so badly?

Good luck!

why do you think sexual assault must be traced back to a perpetrator's culture or religion? do we not have rape and assault here in the us? i just said that both the koran and the bible treat women terribly. and that isn't untrue. i mean, come on, why did josh duggar treat his baby machine so poorly? why did he assault one of the women he paid for? was it christianity? not directly, of course not. did christianity help josh feel that his actions were okay, cause he has dominion and all that patriarchal nonsense? maybe. maybe not. get to the source of the matter. attacking a religion is pointless. personal accountability..i'm all for it. no religious scape goats.

Oh, I'm sorry I interpreted your challenge earlier to my study of the koran as a genuine interest in the topic of the thread, I apologize for that. At least you realized immediately you were out of your depth and are now swimming back to shore.

I like statistics. I like common threads. I think we can understand why things happen and when bad things happen it is a good idea to understand what underlying cause can be attributed.

You are not at all religious and thus you seem to struggle with understanding that some people are; that their religion motivates them. This despite them screaming, sometimes at the barrel of a gun, that it does.

Good luck!

again, you misunderstand me. of course religion motivates the religious. without a doubt. but show me where all rapists/misogynists are of one particular religion...you can't. rapists can be both religious and non religious. i'm no scientist but i think that blows your common thread into pieces.

If that's true, do you think Catholicism is inherently pedophile inclined?

Or Mormons are going to create a cult like following and enslave little girls and marry them off to old men for procreation?

Or Christians that decide to go protest other religions with guns and signs that say F your religion?

I shall invoke my esteemed former colleague Penny Lane's well-known statement: "I never said that." I believe my comments in this thread have been limited to:

A.) This is gross; women are treated like scum in some societies that also proclaim them to be domestic angels; women have a right to be people out in the world without being assaulted1;

B) Sweet Jesus, I love the West Wing2;

C) I defer to the Patriarchy like a good little woman, and savor the irony of a demand made for my reply in a thread about how men disrespect the agency of women3; and

D) This summary.

Unless you are creeping in the little green "+1" counts to determine who likes posts that you don't. Are +1's speech? It's actually a topic that has been considered at law. In the case Bland v. Roberts, 730 F.3d 368 (4th Cir. Va. 2013), the Fourth US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Facebook "likes" are protected speech under the First Amendment. Potentially a VJ +1 could then be considered speech. Under such an argument, when I gave a +1 to Rob L4 for his question:

it is arguable that I was endorsing this question. However, I only gave a +1 because I thought it was a relevant question to ask. I don't know you, so I don't know the answer to this question, and I think in the circumstances it can give some context. Granted, the phrasing is snarky, but hey, this is VJ. Nevertheless, I did not directly challenge you.

Most pertinently, creeping in the +1s is weird. But hey, I'm out of my depth and should go back to posting gifs.
