Hi all!

I'm currently completing the DS-260 and it's asked if my husband and child (on separate 'pages') are 'immigrating' with me to the US.

Well, yes they are as my husband was born and raised in America and will be returning and bringing us as his family with him, and my son although London-born, already has his American passport, social security number, certificate of American born abroad etc.

I know I don't have to fill in any forms for my kid, so do I just tick the 'yes' they will be immigrating with me box and leave it at that?

Thanks for any help!

The Americans can't immigrate - they will never have the status of "immigrant" in the USA. You have no family immigrating with you.

Thank you- that's why I put the word 'immigrate' like that in my original post! It confused me as yes they are moving with me (obviously!) but there's no space to differentiate this.

So where I put in my husband's details, I tick the 'no he won't be immigrating with me' box? Just feels wrong!

Thanks :)

Hi again!

OK, now I'm really confused...

The DS 260 wants me to:

Please provide the address in the United States where you want your Permanent Residence Card (Green Card) mailed.

But, I won't be in the US to pick up the Green Card before we move there...the Green Card is the visa I'm applying for, right? Not the thing that comes later after you've been living there years?

I'm confused as this is the first time the term Green Card has been used on this form!

(Am applying for spouse visa)

I do have a house waiting for us to move to in the US and post can be sent there...

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, it feels wrong but you're right. :) It's just in case you WERE bringing in another non-USC kid or something.

I've found some info here:

http://hammondlawgroup.com/healthcareblog/2014/03/17/avoiding-errors-on-ds-230-immigrant-visa-application/

• Is this address where you want your Permanent Residence Card (Green Card) mailed?

The green card is usually mailed at least 1 to 4 months after arriving in the U.S. Thus, the card might be mailed to the wrong location if you state that you want the card mailed to the address of a relative and that relative is no longer living at that address after you enter the U.S. Thus, it is better to have the green card mailed to a location that will remain, such as the petitioner/employer address or the attorney’s address.

Assuming that's correct all should be OK!

You're applying for the IR-1 - that's the visa you get in your passport.

Once you enter the USA, you'll fill out a form at the border and then you'll be sent your green card (assuming you also have paid the IV fee - this information is supplied with your returned passport and visa). You'll get that about a month after you enter the USA.

They want to know where to send the green card once you've entered the USA and used your visa. You'll have the opportunity at the border to double check the address you've put and change it if necessary. Put the address of your new house. :)
