She does not have an immigration status on a K1 therefor she's not eligible for medicaid therefor I don't even think emergency medicaid would work.

No disagreement whatsoever, then. I just didn't want anyone believe that you cannot get ANY insurance before AOS, which is in fact what you said. Someone agreed it's not possible before EAD, can't find the post anymore.

I hope my bridge insurance isn't so terrible, or actually I'd prefer not having to use it ...

The K1 visa is void upon entry and you enter immigration status limbo until you file for AOS so I don't think it counts.

The birth of a child doesn't just consist of one visit to the hospital, The medical care begins in the first trimester, and continues throughout the long process of pregnancy, followed by the birth, and follow-up appointments.

This isn't the birth of puppies we're talking about. Opting to come here now and hope to maybe get emergency birth assistance isn't a sane, responsible option.

In any case, the point is, her fiancé is demanding she risk the health of herself and the child in order to come now, or don't come at all. Are you saying she should consider giving in to a demand that horrible?

My fiancé and I also have a baby together, we both agreed that it will be best to give birth in Japan where i had good health insurance and everything worked out, I gave birth in June, my fiancé flew here after three weeks, went to the consulate and applied for the baby's paperwork, in less than two weeks I received his birth registration and US passport and a week later his social security card.

Well hallelujah! Here is the most level headed, intelligent thing two responsible parents can do. If only one post were permitted to remain here as advise, this would be it.

We're not illegal immigrants either. And it's only for limited emergency services. She's going to need care before, during and after the birth.

What I'm saying is that the birth could be covered should she come. I recently had a baby moving in my 3rd trimester so I do understand.

I was told after the birth of my daughter that had I come on a k1 I would've been eligible for it. as well as had I been deemed "undocumented " Lucky for us we already had a prepaid plan

I was also eligible for a span of 60 days of a temporary Medicaid that wouldn't go against the rules of an affidavit of support that covered tests, prenatal and postnatal visits

She should remain home until he is stable to provide for her and the baby. He has no job (who pays for food and rent ?) and wants to focus on his career.

Why on earth throw all this extra stress and expense into the mix ?! It's insane.

She can't work for a long while, there is no insurance, no money for

AOS and it goes on and on. A wedding in the middle of this chaos too ?

It is just irresponsible of him in so many ways to bring her now with all her health complications.

It's not only about her flying, it goes beyond it.

OP: I feel there may be some information missing here, especially in describing his behavior on the risk of flying and pregnancy. Nevertheless, be aware of the following regarding health insurance and care in the USA: by law, everyone must obtain health insurance or pay a penalty. If your fiancé has none, then he has a penalty to pay. As long as the penalty is paid, one doesn't need to obtain insurance. Keep in mind though seeking out medical care isn't free without insurance. Hospital bills can run into many thousands of dollars. The cost of raising a newborn without income is also great. The federal law, provides that there must be a certain amount of coverage that plans must offer to potential customers and that the customer cannot be denied access to care for pre-existing conditions. Any plan that is purchased must be recognized by the federal law as having a certain standard of care to be accepted without a penalty.

That means, some short term insurances, or medical travel insurances, or even immigrant insurance marketed towards foreign visitors and K1s that you can buy are not acceptable means of care and are not recognized. The penalty still applies in these cases. To the government these are considered substandard.

Insurance can be purchased through the federal exchange, a state exchange (if offered), or buying privately (these are all accepted means without penalty). The cost is usually great. Other means of insurance is having it offered through employment (of which often times a spouse can be added). Immigrants are certainly allowed to have access to health insurance - though it would require you to already marry your fiancé and have applied to adjust your status. You can see the link in my signature as to what documents you'd need to prove your status that would allow you access.

Considering your fiancé is unemployed, without healthcare, and now going to enter a police academy (which will certainly take some time) - you have some hard questions to ask yourself. As a woman who carries a child, you and your child's life are of the most importance here above all else. How will he support you? How will he provide you insurance? When will you file for AOS (and he is able to prove his or a cosponsor's support)? Does he understand the risk to you and your child? Even if you came here, where will you seek out proper medical care for your baby and your health issues? Who will pay for it?

I will not offer my thoughts on his behavior here. My concern is that you and baby are taken care of in the safest manner possible before, during, and after birth.
