Hi. I'd like to ask whoever won the lottery and moved in the US, how successful they are in their new life? Especially those who had a good paying job and a partner that they had to break up and leave behind. Was it worth in the end?

I just wish I was in a more desperate position in life like not having a job nor a healthy relationship so that it would be a lot easier to move outside of my country and leave the relatives and friends I grew up with. And I was curious how other people feel that are in a similar position as me.

I can relate to your position; I love my job (in the UK), like where I live, am in a relationship and would happily stay here for the rest of my days, so I am probably in a similar situation as yourself. On the other hand this is almost a "once in a lifetime" opportunity and even if I go for a year and then come back it will certainly be an adventure. I am trying to get a work transfer which will make the transition a little easier and also allow me to come back if I want to, but this is not a certainty. A difficult decision!!!

The thing I hate the most is that in my country I was always 5 - 10 minutes away from my job very close where I live. In the US you got to take bus and subway and the distances are very long if you don't have a car in the beginning you return late home and only have a weekend of freedom and that makes me feel somewhat depressed.

I don't know I feel like I am making the worst decision by choosing to leave my current job and relationship and move to the US. If something goes wrong and I don't like it there, there won't be by old job or partner waiting for me here in my country. Sure in the US they pay you more, but is that really worth it?

Eh, I don't know about that...From what I know especially for NYC, most office jobs are located in Manhattan and if you live outside Manhattan then you got to take bus and subway for sure.

If you want to live in NYC, sure, or another major city. Only the largest cities in the country have subway systems. Most of the USA does not. It's a big country. If I were moving the the US, I would certainly not live in NYC. I would live in a lower cost of living area with low unemployment.


By the way, I'm a US citizen. Born and raised in this country...I know what I'm talking about.

Yeah, NYC is not my preferred choice but I have many family relatives and people I know there that can support me in the beggining...

I hear that New Jersey is better than NYC is that so? Could you suggest me other cities that are better?

I see..I trust your opinion...I just have to arrive at NYC first outside of Manhattan where my family members are.

Has anyone gone to a city where he has no relatives or friends (but has better job opportunities) to start a new life after receiving the immigration visa?

How easy is to start alone, rent a house, getting to know the place etc.
