Hello,

We just got approved yesterday. I was really surprised because i thought something was wrong with our application, nevertheless we are of course, really happy. :joy:

I have a question about the Affidavit of Support. I am well over the poverty guidelines and was wondering how much money should i have in the bank for verification. I have not been really good at saving and i'm a little concerned they may judge me on this. I make a little over $45,000 a year (on the books) being conservative it will probably come out to around $55,000. I am single, no children and not taking care of anyone. I have been spending money like crazy lately because i am going to start my own business next year and was not really thinking about this form. That being said i am down to only $3,000 in savings. Will this pass?

Any thoughts

Like the others have said, it doesn't matter how much is in savings, as long as you can prove how much income you make.

No one cares about your savings. You need a completed I-134 and a copy of your most recent tax return and W-2 for the interview. Do NOT need copies of bank statements.

This is what the instructions say;

Submit in duplicate evidence of income and resources, as appropriate:

A. Statement from an officer of the bank or other financial institutions with deposits, identifying the following details regarding the account:

  1. Date account opened;
  2. Total amount deposited for the past year; and
  3. Present balance.

B. Statement(s) from your employer on business stationery showing:

  1. Date and nature of employment;
  2. Salary paid; and
  3. Whether the position is temporary or permanent.

C. If self-employed:

  1. Copy of last income tax return filed; or
  2. Report of commercial rating concern.

I am not self-employed so I need

A. Statement from an officer of the bank or other financial institutions with deposits, identifying the following details regarding the account:

  1. Date account opened;
  2. Total amount deposited for the past year; and
  3. Present balance.

B. Statement(s) from your employer on business stationery showing:

  1. Date and nature of employment;
  2. Salary paid; and
  3. Whether the position is temporary or permanent.

According to the instruction I do not have to send in the tax returns. Are you saying to send them in just in case?

DON'T GO BY THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE I-134, it is a generic form that is used with many visas. For the K-1 visa at USEM you need what I posted, which is what is stated in the embassy instructions letter.

EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT. You should be able to demonstrate that you will not become a public charge or burden on the U.S. taxpayers for financial support. A completed I-134 Affidavit of Support Form may be useful to the consular officer to evaluate your petitioner’s ability to be financially responsible for you. You may also be asked to submit your petitioner’s most recent U.S. Federal income tax return (Form 1040) and wage statements (Form W-2). Employment letters stating salaries and bank statements may (as in not required) be included to substantiate the I-134. Download Form I-134 at http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis.
