I have yet to receive my NOA2 but I'm hoping it should be in the next few weeks (fingers are tightly crossed) so I'm wondering how soon should you send off for the police check.

As I live in Sydney id be grateful to hear from fellow Aussie's that have done the process already as too how long it took and is there a time frame that the certificates are good for when using for the k1 fiancé visa?

Also I need a police check done for the time I lived in the UK. Any Australian's who have required checks from the UK i'd like to know how long it took to receive yours. I did read from an old post it took around 8 - 9 weeks hoping that in 2015 the postal service has greatly improved lol.

I waited till I got my NOA2 then applied for my police cheque. I initially did a fingerprint check but I filled it out wrong and sent another one - just a name check.

The name check came within a week and the fingerprint check came in about 30 days. I only used the name check for my interview and that was fine.

I'd like to update this pinned post with my experience as at April 2015.

1. I applied online through the NSW Police Criminal Records section.This cost me $175. (https://npcoapr.police.nsw.gov.au/aspx/dataentry/Introduction.aspx)

2. After lodging, I noted and printed the confirmation of payment page.

3. I called Newtown Police Station and they confirmed I could come down immediately as they had nobody in the dock.

4. Did my prints, told them to send it to Parramatta and they did.

5. Called Parra the next day and confirmed they had arrived

6. Two days later I received my certificate.

I did the $52 NSW police check....this one didn't include finger prints....has anyone used this one? At the top of the certificate it states " National Police Certificate" and states on the certificate " no disclosable court outcomes"....I have seen in other threads people applying through AFP website and selecting code 30.

I applied thru NSW Police website - which is what Tayurshu seems to have done as well.

I know the instructions say AFP but the information in the threads is conflicting....

I obtained a National Police check from NSW and it was rejected, I was informed I needed the AFP one only.No fingerprints OK.Took less than 2 weeks and you can do it all online.

UPDATE. just received my interview appointment and now they are requesting I bring along a Queensland NSW police check which is funny as that was what i originally mailed to them but was informed the I needed a Federal National Police check instead which I now have but have to say it really is confusing.

Anyone in doubt probably should email the consul for clarification.

My NSW check was for $75.You definitely do NOT need a fingerprint check but you may wish to email the consulate and query if

indeed they now require a Queensland / NSW check as well as the Federal Police one.

I called the AFP and said my NSW national Police Certificate looked exactly like the sample on the AFP page, therefore my thinking was are they one and the same? I was advised that the AFP checks additional databases so no, they aren't the same.

Finally some clarity, so I have applied for the AFP check and will also take my NSW one just in case.

So are you doing the fingerprints with the AFP? Im confused if you need them or not.

I'm not doing fingerprints- the checklist I received from the Consulate States fingerprints are preferred but not mandatory.

For me the confusion was more around a state based police check vs AFP.

I found that confusing too. I decided to go with the AFP check and i guess now, no fingerprints lol. Thanks for the help.
