Supervisor Review - How Does It Work?

My DS260 was filled out July 9th. I called yesterday and it hadn't been reviewed yet. So the NVC rep said she could put me on Supervisor Review. I said go ahead.

I am not sure what I am in for. Apparently, Supervisor Review can take up to 42 days. Some questions for folks who might know:

1. Supervisor Review was generated for my DS260, but I also have a checklist awaiting review (scan date July 27th). When the Supervisor Review is finally performed, do they review everything in the case?

2. How long does it take until the Supervisor Review is completed? Does it usually take the whole 42 days?

3. Are cases put in Supervisor Review completely removed from the regular queue for evaluating cases and documents? Assuming there is a queue, since I don't really understand what the normal process is for reviewing docs at the NVC.

I called today to ask some variation of the questions of an NVC rep and she was completely rude, dismissive and unhelpful. I asked to speak directly to a supervisor, but one wasn't available. Feeling pretty lowdown, since this process doesn't seem like it's going to end soon, and then there is the waiting for the interview date afterwards. Am I screwed until the end of September now?

1. Yes, the supervisor will also review the checklisted item.

2. The "deadline" is 45 days. Most seem to be reviewed faster than that and some, like us, go longer than the 45 days. We're currently on day 56 and counting. :ranting:

3. Once on supervisor review, a supervisor will request your case be sent to his desk and that's where it'll sit until he reviews it.

Above is information I've gathered through our seven or eight phone calls to NVC about our long supervisor review. If you're lucky when you call, you'll get someone that will put you through to a supervisor, most reps won't. :(

The reason why your DS-260 hadn't been reviewed is probably because of your checklist. Some reviewers will not review the DS-260 until they receive the items back for the checklist. Or so I've been told by three separate NVC reps. You probably would have been better off not calling and getting on supervisor review. Then your DS-260 would have most likely been reviewed along with the checklist within 30 days from July 27th, so by next week. Now, your 45 days started roughly around yesterday. Pray you get one of the good supervisors that review quickly and not the one we have. :( Good luck.

Shouldn't the NVC rep tell me to wait if the reviewers usually don't review the DS260 until the checklist is also reviewed? Shouldn't one hand be talking to the other? Can't ANYONE at the NVC give us straight answers and just review some docs quickly when the deadline has already passed?

The lack of clarity in how the NVC handles these very important and sensitive documents is appalling. I have no idea if I just mindlessly added an unnecessary month to my case being completed, and none of the reps even know how the NVC handles the document processing to be able to tell me if that is what I have done?

Then again, who knows if what those reps even told you is true. This is what is so maddening about this process.

I'm calling and bothering them every morning now til something moves along. This is ridiculous.

There is no logic to the US immigration process and certainly not to the way NVC works, so don't even try to make sense out of it. :(

The NVC phone reps put WAYYYYY too many cases on supervisor review to the point that the supervisors now can't keep up. Ours didn't even have to go there, she just put it because our DS-260 hadn't been reviewed yet, same as yours.

The phone reps don't know, all they have is whatever comment has been left on someone's file, like scan date etc. And the reviewers and supervisor that do know, you can't talk to... At least with USCIS, you can book an infopass and actually go there and talk to a reviewer about your case. When it comes to NVC, you're just stuck there, waiting waiting waiting. :ranting:

I have had similar challenges recently with supervisory review and a unnecessarily delayed case. My guess with review is that it is a way of saying "keep waiting" that is supposed to be more reassuring, but, as we have found, the call center has no in depth knowledge of the cases they see on their computer nor any real power to intervene in those cases.

One thing that I am trying is contacting the US Senator in my state. Senators have people within their office who deal only in immigration cases, and many have online forms you can fill out when you have an inquiry (plus a privacy release consent form that allows them to call the NVC about your case). Though yet to be confirmed in my own case, my guess is that a Senator may be able to help bring a case to the attention of the right people more quickly than you or I. Other cases I have read suggest this to be true.

I will let you know how it goes.
