Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago I received a letter stating that I might not have to go for an interview in order to get my green card. Today I got a letter asking for additional evidence for my case, Im not sure why this happened.

I was wondering what kind of things I should send? It does ask for my marriage certificate, joint bank statements and photos but that's pretty much all we have to provide. I haven't been able to get employment yet, so we are living with my mother in law, we have a joint checking account but that's about it. My mother in law has said she will provide a notarized letter stating that we pay her rent to live in her house.

Any ideas what else I could provide? I really don't wanna delay my green card any more than I have to. I already received a letter stating that they are experiencing high levels of delay and they are currently around 6 months behind.

Thanks in advance!

That's good, that means they're working on your case :D

Send them everything they ask for. Do you have anything else together....car insurance? Cell phone bill? Anything with both of your names on it to show you live together? Affidavit from your MIL will help too.

We always advice no need to send those with the initial petition. Perhaps that advice should be re evaluated?

Including the marriage certificate with the AOS is extremely important and the fact that OP didn't do that is possibly why they need more proof.

Just my two cents.

I was wondering the same thing, but think it may be because she didn't include the marriage certificate so that generated a generic RFE that covers that and then some. Within the first 9-10 days of my fiancé entering the country, we had married and filed. We had nothing joint but the marriage certificate at that time. If like the OP, we had gotten a request seven months later, we could have supplied it easily, so not such a bad deal if they really wanted more.

I enclosed my marriage license back when I filed in January. I have no idea why they need another copy, I have never received my copy back so its lucky I paid for 2.

Thanks to the people who were helpful.

I did send a number of photos when I filed back in January. I have no idea why they would like more proof.

My mistake I didn't mean to say license, yes I sent a certified copy of the marriage certificate back in January.

This is the second RFE weve had since January, both times we had already sent what they were asking for. Yeah im starting to give up on them too lol

It is odd, but perhaps it is this specific IO that received their case and believes they need to see the same evidence as someone getting an interview before approving without interview.

You don't need to send the original marriage license. They want a "copy of the certified licence" not a "certified copy of the license". Just take what you have and make a photocopy.

I sent a copy of my marriage certificate and the translation for it because even though it says you only need it for the I-864A I sent is as a backup as Proof of Relationship. Here are the documents they say as proof of relationship they want but the say its only if you file i-864A.

If you completed Form I-864A, submit evidence that proves your relationship to the sponsor (the person who filed Form I-864). You can prove your relationship by submitting a photocopy of one of the documents below:

  • Birth certificate;
  • Marriage certificate;
  • Adoption certificate;
  • The petitioner or joint sponsor’s most recent Federal Income Tax Returns, if you are listed as a dependent; or
  • A signed, written statement describing the relationship.

Not really as they've been told they wouldn't have to go through an interview.

When I had an infopass meeting with an Immigration Officer about questions regarding how to fill in one of the forms I was told that if I added photos of us, letter of our story, how we met and fell in love, and things with both our names on it and prove, with the package, that we were bona fide we could reduce our interview time from 30 minutes to 5.
