So anyone who's not a soldier should shut up? Sorry, I just don't buy it.

it was an example, not a yardstick of who can speak about the topic.

Lets also remember what they did to authors and publishers......

Amazon is frankly worse than Walmart in its effects on the US.

They have done a lot of damage to the publishing industry.

Other people pay the price for our cheap shopping habits.

Nonsense, it is extremely difficult to prove discrimination. The whole at will employment rules make it very easy to fire anyone and hense it is difficult for employees to prove that they were fired because of discrimination.

Nonsense on your nonsense, I am pulling the my brother is a labor lawyer card and he backed up the concept that the appearance that someone was fired or pressured out while undergoing medical issues would have the chips on their side. A small employer may not realize the predicament they are in but a major employer or any labor lawyer would. At least that is how it works in Washington state ( where the employer in question resides)

The content available on a site dedicated to bringing folks to America should not be promoting racial discord, euro-supremacy, discrimination based on religion , exclusion of groups from immigration based on where they were born, disenfranchisement of voters rights based on how they might vote.

Yup. Companies pull this safe with the knowledge that most people will either think 'it's hard to prove' or will fear becoming unemployable if they dare complain and anyone finds out.

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

March 13, 2014 Married!

October 31, 2014: USCIS ships file to NVC (five days after NOA2) Happy Halloween for us!

November 18, 2014: NVC receives our case (22 days after NOA2)

December 17, 2014: NVC generates case number (50 days after NOA2)

December 19, 2014: Receive AOS bill, DS-261. Submit DS-261 (52 days after NOA2)

I once took over a service contract in Harrisburg PA. I went in and looked at the work force and realized they had about twice as many people as they needed. I did not offer employment to 4 of the employees of the previous service provider, I chose to hire the most senior employees of the group. Each one of the people I did not hire filled wrongful termination claims with the state. One claimed I fired him for having diabetes and being over weight, one claimed because she was a woman and two others because they were elderly. The commonwealth of PA accepted the claims and filed suit against me and my company because I had terminated these folks in a discriminatory manner.

I had terminated people who never worked for me in a discriminatory manner.

We ended up settling for $375 per person.

evil;)

After a while I felt evil. Over 13 years in that position I was named in at least 10 claims, mostly termination or dismissal gripes. In most cases I had never even met the person face to face. Every single case was settled because it was cheaper, the most I ever remember paying an individual in settlement was $1,800, a lot less than the legal fees we paid.

I told one woman in Ontario if she had put as much effort into her job as she did her dismissal claim she would have been a manager in no time; she laughed.

There are evil employers out there but I guarantee there are many more evil employees.

There is a guy who worked for me for many years (still works for the company). At the time he was mid-30's and morbidly obese (under 6 feet tall and over 300 lbs.) I was trying to fill a position that required what I consider to be a fair amount of international, long distance travel. He was more than qualified for this promotion that would have increased his pay 10 to 12 %. I took him on several trips with me to introduce him to the client base and found that the travel aspect was physically too much for him and it was because he was fat and eventually I did not promote him. I ended up giving the job to a less experienced and probably less qualified person who was fit.

Is this discrimination?

I like the guy, he's smart and funny and very capable but he couldn't perform the task I needed him to because of his weight. If a person has a condition that prevents them from doing their job should the company just carry them for an undetermined amount of time? Once you have made all the accommodations you can make who decides when is enough, enough.

I had an employee who sustained a back injury during a vacation and could no longer work on her feet so at considerable expense we modified her work station so she could sit. Eventually her condition worsened so we modified her schedule so she could take more frequent breaks by having her supervisor sit at her work station while she went out and smoked. Eventually we created an administrative position because it got to be too much for her on the production floor. She was eventually fired for missing too much work. EEOC claim submitted, settled for a few hundred dollars, makes us look like a bad company.

Interesting.

So you were head of HR?

I would say percentage wise evil employers versus evil employees the figures might be the same...

Tough job. I hope you were paid well!

Yes and no, we didn't have an HR department as we were only about 120 people worldwide (plenty big enough to have someone dedicated to the job in my opinion). I was the Director of Operations and ended up handling the lions share of the HR #######. It was a problem because often times I was too close to the situation.

I was paid well enough; for a while. I resigned last year after almost 18 years and sold my equity. Yes it was a tough job.

People in general are evil I think, so are cats.

The older I get, the more I believe this. There are a few good apples out there, but the majority of folks I have dealt with care about no one but themselves and will do whatever it takes to make themselves happy, including lying, stealing and making other folks miserable in the process.

The cat thing is a given. Cats are the devil!
