A manager at a McDonald’s branch in Birmingham has reportedly been sacked after he cut workers’ hours because they are black.

University student Divine Tenn, 18, who has worked at a Birmingham branch since 2014, said she and fellow black employees noticed their shifts were being cut without explanation in July.

Tenn has since quit her job at the fast food giant in protest, after she recorded her manager Jaskaran Singh Khela saying that “The black people can’t take no shifts – they’re not performing.”

He said the new policy applied to the store’s 20 black members of staff, according to the Sunday Mirror.

McDonald's told The Independent: "We took this incident extremely seriously and launched a full investigation the employee concerned no longer works for the company and support is in place for the members of staff affected by the incident.

"McDonald’s is an inclusive employer and any incidences of discrimination against our employees will not be tolerated.”

This is America you cannot cut some folks hours because they slack off at work ... In NY they will pay these folks 15/hr to slack off . I believe that law passed .

If it was perfomance related you'd think the guy would have documentation of formal disciplinary processes. That the manager was fired kind of suggests he didn't.

They did not get fired . The manager was giving the hours to folks he could count on to get the job done not stand around and talk all day and make customers wait

If you had a lot of under preforming staff you would loose a lot of money during the day .My wife complains that the white folks won't work as hard as the Chinese .( We won't mention any other race )... This is at her part time job .Part of that is a bit in fear that a Chinese could get fired if they slack off too much. . The Chinese have a great deal of work ethic .Slack off in many jobs and someone is there to take your place .

The guy was overheard making a racist comment which was recorded by an employee. He doesn't work for the company anymore.

Yeah, the manager was pretty stupid here. If he had underperforming employees, he should have documented it and moved forward with the cuts. By making a generalization of the performance based on race is not right, and he got what he desevred.
