Darren Wilson Day? Really?

So as many of you may have heard, Monday was declared "Darren Wilson Day" by the police union in Missouri. I honestly could not believe that this was not some sort of sick joke.

After all of the controversy that the shooting of Michael Brown has caused, why would anyone think that this is a good idea? Either the person or persons behind this are complete idiots or they are trying to stir the pot and incite more protests and violence on the streets to bump their arrest stats. Even if this shooting of an unarmed citizen was justified (which I personally don't think it was) why would this officer get his own "day" because of it?

The police are supposedly here to serve and protect us and this is just causing relations to further separate. Michael Brown was a person. A person. Whether he was guilty of a crime or not (and according to the store owner that he allegedly robbed it might not have even been him.)

Michael Brown had friends and family. They have feelings just as much as the rest of us and I'm sure this is just a slap in the face to them. Giving this officer his own day for killing someone is just ridiculous. Why would you celebrate the death of another human being? Do they not have any respect at all for human life? If this is the case, do we really want these people patrolling our streets? I definitely do not.

Police in our country need to be held accountable for their actions and actually show some sort of remorse when they feel it is necessary to take the life of another person for any reason. Celebrating what Darren Wilson did is just irresponsible, dangerous and just plain wrong. How many other officers will want their own day?

Guy was almost murdered in a vicious attack by a violation criminal, but managed to heroically defend himself. Why not honor him.

I mean the scumbag who tried to kill got a plaque.

Michael Brown and his actions lead to his untimely demise in my opinion and I can see where, from the police point of view, Officer Wilson got the raw end of the stick given the actions and reaction to say nothing of turning Mr. Brown into a victimized saint by some in the community and throughout the US. Yes I can agree it was unfortunate that Mr. Brown was killed, especially for his family. But I don't agree that fellow officers honoring Officer Wilson is somehow a slap in the face to anyone.

Mr. Brown is not a good example of actual police brutality. Again in my opinion.

You do realize the store owners never confirmed if that was Michael Brown in the video. So with that being said, even if it was him, does theft = death?

Agreed about the video, but based on his friends account it was him. And it wasn't simple shoplifting, it was assault and battery based on the video. As to the store owner, what would you do in his position? Michael Brown was made into a saint, if he confirms it, his store and possibly his life are in jeopardy. As it turned out, the store was destroyed anyway.

I am all for the BLM movement, except for the fact that in my opinion every life matters, but Michael Brown is not the best example to drive that movement forward.

Theft and Assault, strong armed Robbery. Let's not minimize it to Theft like he dropped a few cigars down his pants and casually whistled his way out of the store. Michael Brown or even if it were someone else.

I have never heard that it might not have been Michael Brown, this is a twist on the story. I don't find it overly germane to what occurred in regards to the shooting however.

Adopting the strategy of assaulting and intimidating a police officer, and being completely non-compliant and combative at the same time leads to negative outcomes. Mr. Brown got the worst of said bad outcomes but from my perspective he earned it.

For all of the people commenting, I'll bit.

Please tell me that theft, assault and battery = death?

Domestic Violence in America: General Statistics and Facts
  • Women ages 18 to 34 are at greatest risk of becoming victims of domestic violence.
  • More than 4 million women experience physical assault and rape by their partners.
  • 1 in 3 female homicide victims are murdered by their current or former partner every year.

In this case, we should have 4 million dead husbands in the U.S., yes?

Regardless of what you say this is poor taste on the police department's part. You don't celebrate a person for killing another person be it a justified killing or not. In this case, why not celebrate the Oklahoma bombing, Marathon bombing, Columbine shooting, Colorado theater shooting, Louisiana theater shooting, etc.?

What Michael Brown did prior to the encounter with officer Wilson isn't germane to the outcome. Only Michael Brown knew what he did. Did this lead to him attacking officer Wilson? We will never know, but he was not killed because he stole a pack of cigars and assaulted the store owner, he decided to attack a police officer for whatever reason.

So to answer your question, no theft, assault and battery do not equal death. Attacking someone and beginning a life or death struggle may lead to one of them ending up dead.

Do I think there should be a Darren Wilson day, no, just like I don't think there should be a memorial plaque in the middle of the road to Michael Brown.

The thug tried to assassinate a police officer . That is why he was killed.

No but assaulting a police officer and trying to take his weapon does
