Arrival & flight transfer

When my fiancé flies into the United States they will have to take a transfer flight. Is it a quick process to go through the immigration, as far as layover times . How long should the layover time be between flights (2, 4,6 hours ?)

It really depends on the airport. I landed in anchorage and they aren't too busy with immigration stuff here lol There were 3 of them sorting me out I was done in 15 minutes!

But if you land in NY or similar it can take hours!

It's advisable to budget at least two hours to pass through immigration the first time, when looking into flight transfers. Depending on the airport you may need longer than that, too. ~3-4 would be safer.

Coming from Aruba, you will go through immigration and customs there instead of mainland US. They advise to be at the airport two hours before your flight but that's just for USC's. I have no knowledge how much more time you will need for a K1 but you might do a search on here that is Aruba specific.

Oh! Preclearance is so much easier! I was about to say avoid Atlanta. it's the world's busiest airport. Even as a prescreened passenger it takes 30-45 mins to get through security!

after takes at least 20 minutes of that time at large airports for plane to taxi in

i am US citizes and took me over 3 hours to go thru Chicago changing from international flight to domestice

so, i am giving my husband almost 4 to go thru customs and immigration

pick up his luggage

pick up the new ticket for domestice flight and go back thru security

Hi, thank you for the replies. Well, When my fiancé leaves Aruba they will go through the immigration and customs there, which will make it easier connecting through Atlanta. I don't know where don't think they need to go through any other checks.?

Atlanta is great for immigraiton and customs

after getting the domestice flight all he does is not go thry another / just find luggage

watch the ticket / ours says qatar airlines all the way / but in Chicago he has to change to US air

that means gather luggage from Qatar and going to US Air for domestic ticket and checking luggage in again and the new securtiy time in Atlanta

security in Atlanta is not slow but when all fights come in at the same time / liines are long

and he will come in on the new internaitonal terminal and have to find the domestic one

Hi, thank you for your reply. He is flying Delta from Aruba to Atlanta and then to Myrtle Beach South Carolina. From what I understand he will go through his immigration check in in Aruba and then luggage is all automatically transferred with Delta and wasn't sure if he had to go through anymore of prescreening or immigration in Alanna.
