Hello my dear VJ members,

not quite sure if such Thread already excists (I didn't found one) but:

after I got my Visa in hand now .. I'm looking for a flight with good conditions but definitely "cheap" (below the 1.000 € line) + I'd like to carry my cat "as hand baggage" so in the plane with.

So my question is what flight search engine do you guys use? Are you booking via a travel agency?

I'm curious about your answers.

Best wishes

me = )

p.s. if you don't have your Visa yet (I'm hoping it'll be a smooth & fast process for you guys)

I routinely search for flights directly in Google- just type in "flights from Stuttgart to Dallas" and Google will give you lots of options. One of the things I really like is that it will often do is put up a calendar, and show prices, so you can see the price changes for various days and pick the best combination for your needs.

I have also had good luck with travelocity.com as well as booking directly on an airlines site.

Good luck!

Do you have any miles saved with any airline? I had 10,000 miles with american airlines so I just purchased the leftover 20k miles needed for me to travel on a one-way ticket. Cost me $580

I like kayak.com, CheapOair.com, SmartFares.com. Try. Expedia offers too expensive tickets.

I recently bought my ticket (round trip as it is cheaper) for the end of August: Vilnius-Frankfurt-Huston-Panama City for $732 including flight insurance (original price was $686) I think it's good for this time of the season. The only thing I couldn't do was to book an extra suitcase. I had to call next day to Lufthansa (the flight is operated by them) and they put one extra suitcase on my file, I will pay for it at the airport.

Good luck.

P.S. I had no mile points, nothing as I use different airlines every time.

Where in the US are you flying to?

Try www.norwegen.com, and jetairfly

You will have to put your flight together, as is not a direct flight, but they both take animals on board.

Always cheapest flights. My fiancé is flying through Germany from Turkey and we got a ticket for $460. There were even cheaper flights but they were crazy hours so I decided against it.

Based on your profile, I gather you'd want to fly into Newark. Since that is a big United hub, try logginng on directly to united.com. Make sure you chose round trip (far cheaper), enter your from and to airports, click on My dates are flexible, enter a departure date, and select 60 days for the length of your trip (seems that gives you the best price). Click the Search button, and the next screen displayed is a calendar with the lowest fare for each date so you can compare dates. Right now you can fly from Frankfurt to Newark for around $700 if you depart in a couple of weeks. If you're feeling lucky, you can wait and try again Wednesday night or Thursday. United often changes fares daily, with the lowest fares posted Wednesday night into Thursday.

I looked on the company combo sites such as travelocity, priceline, etc. The airlines direct website had the same prices and even offered more options. I was deciding between Delta or American Airlines, I went with American because they offered assistance to her from gate to gate, in Japan and the US at no extra charge while Delta basically said you are on your own. She had no experience flying internationally so that swayed my choice, plus I am a former US Airways employee. Lol.

Normally I check flights on Kayak.com. When I flew home to the US this time though I already knew I wanted to fly with Icelandair because they're really cheap and one of the few airlines that still allow 2 checked bags without extra fees.

We had to bring two cats with us to the USA. As they are hairless cats and we flew in the winter, it was very important to us to be able to carry them with us on the plane.

Since Lufthansa has a very good connection between Frankfurt and Boston and let us take the cats inside the cabin we chose them.

It did cost us a little more than a flight stopping in Iceland via Icelandair, which we usually use, but it was worth the extra bit of money.

They charge $100 per cat (or 70 Euro). In total we paid 1800 Euro for 2 adult tickets with 2 cats.

Lufthansa is awesome during the flight. One of the cats was really really scared and tried to get out of her carrier, scratched her whole face doing so. I put the carried on my

lap, opened it and let her pop out her head. None of the stewardesses minded it at all, even offered us water for the cats and let us have them like that until we had to land.

Here is the little man, sleeping during the flight LOL

you didn't mention if this was your first time flying, or first time going international.

you can generally get cheaper tickets with 2+ stops. but if you only want one stop in between (which i think is better for keeping luggage from getting lost), it will cost more. the cat thing you'll have to do independent research on after finding the best ticket.

for search engines i prefer google flight matrix, or going through the airline directly.

"A million years if I could live,
A thousand lives if I could give,
I would spend it all again with you,
Don't forget where you belong,
Only with me you are strong,
Not even the gods above can break,
Baby what we have"

Oh, and for your cat you can also call Lufthansa (I asked them about carrying a pet) after you book the ticket. They will tell you what to do. Extra cost will be added up later.

Ya thats right. I alredy asked at the last flight, just to get information and I flew over with them to Newark.

I'd like to take a Lufthansa flight ..but they are sooo expensive during the summer vacation season -.-

Let's assume i'll take a Round-Trip flight ..what have I to do since i'm not flying back? Canceling or just nothing at all?
