No clue if he is still on serbinski, I haven't been there for years! But he had a right to be grumpy, if people did a simple search, they would have found their answer, but thats like any forum, very few use the search feature, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Do you recall how you reported it on taxes, was it in your world wide income?

I'm a little late to this thread, but might have some input that helps.

My wife was self employed bookkeeper/accountant in Canada. When we were still dating she came here for a 2 month summer visit in 2011. She came with the intentions of working remotely and mentioned this to the CBP officer upon entry at the Queenston/Lewiston border crossing. He asked if she would be getting paid in American money and she answered "no Canadian". The CBP officer told her as long as she wasn't getting paid in American money, she would be fine to work remotely.

At the end of her two months stay, I proposed to her before she left and we got married. She stayed and we adjusted status. She ended up worink for 4-5 months remotely before shutting it down. We have never been questioned about this by anyone. I have been given mixed info on whether or not what she did was actually legal, but I can tell you it caused no problems either way.

Yes illegal work is forgiven with marriage to a USC.

My wife paid Canadian taxes on the income. Nothing was reported to the US.

Hello. Myself, and quite a number of others, worked remotely for foreign employers while adjusting status in the US. I even cleared it with USCIS prior to leaving the country for a business meeting, and did so a number of times using Advance Parole. You claim the income on your US taxes. Not one of us ever had a problem. Ever. Hope this helps.

For sure it helps. I haven't entered the US yet but will soon, so I'm starting to look over the forms I need for the AOS. One question I have is on the G-325-A (biographical info) they once again ask for employment history and on the I-485 they ask for my Current Occupation. Did you answer those as "Krikit's Employer: Start Date - current" and "Krikit's Current Occupation" (respectively)?

I'm not quite sure how to fill those fields in. I know honesty is the best policy though. Did they ask about your employment in the interview?
