Hey everyone who's joined us.

And ckibs, unless they change now they handle petitions within the next few weeks (unlikely), your petition will also be routed to California. Every petition is currently going there. My fiancee lives in NY and ours was routed to California. So I wouldn't worry if I were you. :)

I can't wait! I just sent off the full package to my fiancé yesterday. Now he just need to receive it and fill out his part of the forms and then it's off to the lockbox! Woooo! We'll be filing no later than August 20th.

We're hoping we'll get approved no later than January as that's when we would like for me to arrive! So I'm assuming we'll be going to be getting married in February? We're not set on a specific date, we just hope the process will go as fast and smooth as possible :) Either way we won't be having a ceremonial wedding until Summer of 2017 (L)

What about you guys?

I hope to go over in the spring of 2016. We're not rushing it. I'm still in the US right now so we're deciding what's best for us. To have me go to the interview alone sometime around Christmas or to have her come visit me in Germany again so we can go together. Of course that would cost us another ~$1,500 that we could use for the AOS fees but we will see what happens.

No wedding plans as of yet, we won't have a huge wedding though.

Im basically going to go as soon as I can after Christmas. Even if the visa comes before then , I'd like to spend it here with my family before heading off. Plus it's going to be hard giving up the warm Australian summer on the beach for winter in the northeast!

Both of your thoughts regarding your family are similar to mine.

We started talking about where we stood IF we should get so lucky that we would have the visa before 2015 is up and I feel like the right thing to do is to spend the holiday with my family even though I know I will feel like jumping on the first plane when I have the visa in hand (L)

And in regards to the ceremonial wedding - I don't understand people that plan the wedding and/or date before they even have the visa. I understand the excitement but I wouldn't want to get myself all worked up and stressed out in case our timeline would get delayed. And after finally arriving I want to focus on the AOS and everything that comes with that - so in short; summer of 2017 is perfect and it gives my family a little over a year to set money aside :joy:

-------------

I'm curious - how's everybody's families taking it now that you've finally begun the K1 process?

Yea I'm the beneficiary too, my family have known since we met 4+ years ago but I think they've brushed it off since it wasn't happening yet but "later down the road". I'm trying to push the subject on them as it's also important for me to share my excitement to them - I think my mom and dad are really happy for me but they don't like me leaving. I think my siblings want me to be happy but are more "selfish" about it in this situation as they're younger than me and haven't settled down yet themselves.

I think it's difficult sometimes when I just want to share my happiness and excitement with them but also feel like doing so is "showing it" in their faces that I'm leaving soon. Such a complicated feeling and I wish they could be as excited as my fiancée's family.

BUT I'M ecstatic! :joy:

Haha yea I am so ecstatic too ! I have been walking with butterflies in my stomach for the past few weeks. And sometimes it suddenly hits me, like Damn... I am actually going to MOVE their ! Next time I'm going, I don't have to say goodbye anymore, I can stay ! No more rushing of, I want to see this or so many days till I have to leave, I am actually building up an life their.

And I know what u mean with siblings being selfish, I have only 1 older brother but he has a form of autism so for him it is even harder to feel like why I am doing this. The only thing he sees is that I am moving away from him. My dad has been supportive since the beginning, he is like: Well I have seen it coming from the moment u guys started a relationship, so I was allready prepared. And he will come to visit me every year ! Maybe even more :) I actually moved inside the Netherlands for the last few months closer to him, so we can spend more time together!

But hey ! Luckely we have this forum to spill all our exitment !
