I am getting married in October in Morocco and had to get a FBI background check. I, however work for the US government in the commerce division. My background check is not perfect. I have some arrests, but I must not be too bad as I have worked for the government for 18 years. Will the arrest prevent us from getting married and beginning our VISA JOURNEY. Thanks in advance for your support.

Are you saying you had to get an FBI background check in order to get married? It isn't clear the connection between these things.

I'm assuming you're the petitioner. It will not affect your fiance or spouse's visa application.

According to the US Embassy in Rabat, you dont need anything regarding your prior arrests in relation to the marriage process in Morocco: http://morocco.usembassy.gov/service/professional-services/marriage-information.html

Yes. I am getting married in Morocco In October. my fiancé gave me a list of things I had to have in order to get married and was a FBI background check. My question may not be appropriate for this forum I really did not no where else to get the question answered. I realize my arrest record will not hinder a visa for him, but my question is will it prevent us from getting married, as the powers to be in Morocco may see me as not a good citizen. If we are denied marriage in Morocco, we will do a fiancé visa instead. We have known each other for about a year and have spent time together in Morocco so I was very upfront with him about my past life.

Ok I was married in morocco a year ago, it really depends on what type of arrest it is, have your fiance talk to the adul that will do the marriage contract, have him explain what the charges were. And if there is anything you can do about it

Thanks for everyone's assistance. I am stressing about it. I was a wild 20 year old but grew up and not regret my past. Would it be better not to take the FBI one and only take my state and city as they do not show anything.

most does depend on what you were arrested for

and sorry, but that does matter for the visa

the FBI report will show up as one man write on VJ 2 days ago. He was never arrested and doesn't know how to clear it up with immigration. Have you tried to exsponge your record? I would before it causes trouble.

As for marriage in Morocco if you really want to go ahead with the visa knowing you will go thru a long process to deal with this FBI report, then take the local reports. If judge acts you when they do the interview for marriage, you must tell him about the arrest.

I would have all the reports, then try with just the state and local ones, having the FBI check in case they want more. I agree with another poster to have your fiancé check with the Adul, too. But as I said, my hubby says you'll be ok.

Unless the crimes fall under abuse toward others, the USCIS shouldn't have issues approving the petition.

I agree, at the police interview prior to the marriage, it will be questioned, and brought to the Moroccan fiance's attention, but it shouldn't prevent the marriage from taking place. That's all my husband and I are trying to say.

your eligibility to get married in Morocco is not governed by the FBI. I suggest you learn which entity in Morocco, instead, governs your eligibility to get married in Morocco.

If you hold a security clearance of any kind, please check in with your unit's security officer about marrying a Moroccan National, asking specifically if it will affect your clearance, current position, and future advancement.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

They (Morocco) require a background check from the US (if you're a US citizen). Some cities will take a local/state report, others require the FBI background check. They also require one from Morocco, as well. There is an interview with the local police where the marriage takes place, and they go over anything that is on the report(s) with the Moroccan Fiance and the foreigner.

thanks happy toes for explaining.

You're welcome! I should add, if the Moroccan has anything on his/her reports, it's gets reviewed with both parties, as well. I have to reiterate that you should have your fiance find out the requirement for his city by speaking with his Adul. If they just require the local/state report, then you're good, but I'd still have the FBI check available, as well, because the authorities in Morocco have been known to change their minds and add requirements for mixed marriages. They tend to go more smoothly in the larger cities vs the smaller ones, as the larger cities see more mixed marriages than the smaller cities do. Best of luck, peavler6!
