Officer returned passport to my fiance?!

Hello visajourney family,

my fiance had his interview today in the egyptian consulate , everything went by fine but the officer told him that his medical exam results are going to expire soon (we were back in march by the embaseey to expect an interview within weeks so we went ahead and did the medical exam back then) and that he would need to redo the medical exam and come back to the embassey to drop it off or to mail it via aramex. But here is the thing, they did not keep his passport, they gave it back to him and told him to bring it back with his medical exam. is this a bad sign if they did not take his passport? He said the officer was fine with everything else.

I am really anxious here, someone please help!! Has this happened to anyone before and if yes what should we expect next? My fiance is redoing the medical exam and plans to drop it off at the embassey at the earliest time the records becomes available.

If that's all they told him than no. Nothing to worry about. They likely gave it back due to the uncertainty of when he would complete the medical. Wad he handed a slip with things needed to be done/missing ? Edited July 26, 2015 by Shauneg

Maybe he needs his passport to show at the medical. That is a very common case.

He probably need it for the medical, I did because they had to write down passport number and stuff I believe. And it's normal for them to give back the passport when people need to submit additional documents as they don't want to hold on to people's passports when they can't issue a visa. Probably worried about risk of losing it etc.

They returned my fiance's passport too, but said that his medical hasn't came in yet. We only had one week to fit in his medical exam before his interview, so we kinda had the opposite problem as you! Lol! I confirmed with the clinic that his medical results arrived at the embassy the week of his interview, and we had updates after his medical, so that's probably when they associated his results with the case.

I sent an email to the embassy after his medical asking about getting him a new passport, but they gave strict instructions for him not to get a new passport and that they were waiting on his medical results. Give the embassy time to get the medical results and to look over the case again - maybe one week after the appointment for the results to arrive, then another two weeks for the embassy to review the results.

I was feeling uneasy since they kept everyone else's passport, but not his. However, they did keep his original and English translated tazkira (national identity card) even though he had brought copies of both. I am choosing to take this as a good sign.

Since they are requiring a new medical exam, they don't need to keep the passport because they need a new medical before issuing the visa. Think of it as if they are requesting a new piece of evidence or documentation. After you provide that evidence, they will review your case again to see if he qualifies for the visa, then send the email for him to drop off his passport! Be optimistic! It sounds like the interview went fine and that you guys are almost there!

Did they make it clear when he would turn in his passport, possibly along with medical or another interview?​

If they gave back my passport, that's the question I would have asked.
