Video of Sandra Bland's arrest ignites firestorm of reactions

(CNN)Anger over Sandra Bland's death in a Texas jail has boiled over after newly released video showed what happened at the traffic stop that led to her arrest.

Now, many question whether she should have been arrested at all.

The dashcam video shows Texas state Trooper Brian Encinia pulling Bland over July 10 for allegedly failing to use her turn signal. What started as normal conversation gets testy after Encinia asks her to put out her cigarette.

"I am in my car. I don't have to put out my cigarette," Bland says.

"You can step on out now," Encinia replies.

Bland refuses to get out of her car, and the trooper opens her door and starts trying to pull her out of the vehicle.

What happens after that has ignited a debate about what the officer could have done versus what he should have done.

The trooper is on desk duty for having violated the department's "courtesy" policy.

The suspect had an attitude and several Internet postings indicating attitude, anger, and depression.

Legal authorities say that, practically, it's probably better to comply and then take it up in court.

Several Fourth Amendment issues are probably in play.

First two statements arguably have merit.

Third is still under official investigation, without a ruling yet.

Just because you act an idiot doesn't mean you deserve death. There are people who have killed and raped children who don't get the death penalty.

I'm not sure she was acting like an idiot. Not putting out your cig in your car isn't a valid reason for being arrested.

You eat your pride and follow his directions. IF you feel you have been done wrong, then once you get home you call Internal Affairs and talk to them. Or hire and attorney.

Apparently what she did made it legal for him to arrest her. The cops know the law and use it, average person on the street just needs to yes sir or no sir to cop and move on with your life........

It's a matter of police being on a power trip. They give an order and expect it to be complied with. Reminds me of Germany and other countries during World War II or the sheeples that live in the US today. There is a line to be drawn over what can be requested and what can't. If I'm in my car smoking a cig while you have me pulled over and you tell me to put it out I would probably do the same thing. Mainly because I have no ashtray and would have to throw it out the window. Wow, imagine the charges for that...littering, assault with a dangerous weapon, and who knows what else.

The officer should have just ignored her attitude and done his job.
