Confused about affidavit of support!

Hi I'm new to this site so I didn't really know where to post but I'm hoping you can help me! My husbands interview is on July 27. I need to send him an affidavit of support. Now I'm not making any income so I have a joint sponsor(brother) His total income(line 22 of 1040) is around $19,000. For a household of 3, it needs to be around $25,000. Now, he has a new job and his individual annual income(the amount he makes a year, not his total income on 1040) is about $85,000. Do they take into account his current income or do they only look at last years tax form to determine whether he meets the poverty guidelines?

Is he self employed or does he earn a salary/wages? Self employed takes last year's income. Salary/wage earner would use annualized current earnings.

Last year, he was self employed. So his 1040 shows a total income of $19,000 for last year. This year, he works as an employee. Not self employed anymore.

Employer letter and recent paystubs to support his income claim should be sufficient.

If he's employed now, send a letter from his employer plus pay stubs for as many months as you can from the new job, to show that current salary meets the federal guidelines. Good luck.

How can he have an interview date if you didn't send the i-864 to NVC? Just curious.

You sure that the $19,000 on his tax return wlnt affect anything? I don't want to get an RFE on the day of his interview. Well we sent in an i864 and got an RFE but they told us to send a new one with him.

Another question: say I decided to go a different route because I am terrified of sending it in the way you said and it get denied. Could I add my other brother who is in the same household as the joint sponsor, to his income just to be on the safe side? I'm scared that they only look at the tax information and not his current income. Please help!

If he's current salary is verifiable (through the letter of employment, pay stubs, and bank deposits),

then his last year's tax won't matter as long as he has paid owed taxes.

You can always add another co-sponsor, but not necessary at $85K salary.

And what if he works on commission? How would he get his employer to state how much he makes?

Would it be ok to make two affidavits, one with just the joint sponsor and one with the joint sponsor and the household member, and send both to my husband to take to the interview?

The total on the tax return/w2 is what counts.
