another option would be to marry a uscitizen, and immigrate in with your new spouse as your sponsor. is that plausible or feasible for you? Might want to check with Mom about finding a suitable lass, if she likes to arrange these things.

HAHAHAHA! I was hoping someone would come up with this suggestion. Yes I can consider it, an engagement first. I have read at some places that I can move even if I have a fiance visa.

eh - it won't be the kiss of death, really. Get Moms involved.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I do find it interesting whenever this topic comes up, how many people just say 'find a USC and marry them to get your greencard'.

No mention of love or wanting to be with someone.

Isn't marrying someone purely for immigration benefits kind of a little bit like fraud?

August 2000: We start e-mailing. I'm in Bosnia, she's in Florida

October 29th 2000: She sends me e-mail asking if I would marry her

October 29th 2000(5 seconds later): I say yes

November 2000: She sends me tickets to Orlando for when I get back

December 6th 2000: Return from Bos

December 11th 2000: Fly to Orlando, she meets me at airport

December 22nd 2000: I fly back to UK

January 3rd 2001: She flies to UK (Good times)

Mid February 2001: Pregnancy test Positive

Mid February 2001: She flies back to US

March 2001: Miscarriage, I fly to US on first flight I can get

May 2001: I leave US before my 90 days are up

June 2001: I fly back to US, stopped at airport for questioning as I had only just left

September 2001: Pregnancy test Positive again

September 2001: She falls sick, I make decision to stay to look after her as I am afraid I may have problems getting back in.

April 16th 2002: Our son is born, we start getting stuff together for his passport

March 6th 2003: We leave US for UK as family

Early April 2003: Family troubles make her return to US, I ask Embassy in London about possibilities of returning to US

April 16th 2003: London Embassy informs me that I will be banned from the Visa Waiver Program for 10 years, my little boys first birthday

June 13th 2006: I-129f sent

August 11th 2006: NOA1 Recieved

After our relationship breaks down she admits to me that she had never bothered to start the application process

True but also I feel this is a bit of a culture thing also. Most Pakistanis do not go for love marriages. It's very common to have parents/relatives to play match maker.

I would tell the OP that if he is ready for marriage and his family prefers arranged marriages then that might be something to consider. Not just for immigration benefits but maybe his family would find a nice girl there that would be compatible to him.

if that doesn't work out, have you considered studying in the U.S.? Like a masters or some other post grad school?

To be honest, I think the same. Which is why I created this thread in the first place. So that I don't have to marry for immigration benefits.

Yes I did apply for masters. But my VISA got rejected. So I'm not left with many options now.

8 years if LPR mom files for you and you have to remain single the entire time. There's no way to shorten it.

Explore the working visa categories.

I see. My mom is currently a Permanent resident. She wants to apply for my immigrant status now as well. So should she wait for herself to become a USC or she can apply now? Does it make a difference in terms of wait time (applying as PR or applying as a USC)?

As the unmarried adult son of a greencard holder, it takes about 8.5 years until your priority date becomes current;

as the unmarried adult son of a US citizen holder, it takes about 9.5 years until your priority date becomes current (yes, oddly longer right now, but your mom would not be obliged to change your category when she becomes a USC)

as the married adult son of a US citizen holder, it takes about 11 years until your priority date becomes current

Whaaaat!? This means that in order to join my family there in the US, I will have to marry someone. That is the only option I am left with. And this is the one thing I don't want to do.

Thanks for the information though.

How did your ancestors and your family immigrate to the US? They can probably give you some more tips coz VJ members already gave you theirs.

Good luck!
